Jet 7 Portable Power Chair Logo
Anonymous Posted on Dec 16, 2010

Hello, After fully charging my mother's Jazzy power chair overnight, the rear battery indicator/pointer shows zero meaning it's fully charged. I leave it unplugged all day and then by 5pm when I check the battery indicator again, it registers 2, which means it's no longer fully charged. After driving it about 200 feet, the three green lights become 2 green lights. The battery is only about 10 months old and the chair is driven less than 1000 feet per day by a very small women on fairly level sidewalk. Do I need to replace the batteries, or is there something else wrong with the chair and causing the batteries to lose their charge? Many thanks.

Sorry but it sounds like weak batteries. I would replace both batteries and after installation fully charge before use. Then ask Mom to use the chair more each day so you can charge them overnight each day for the next 20 days. It will break in the batteries and get them operating at 100%. If you can get her to use it more and charge it overnite and always put it up at full charge the batteries should last 2-3 years Hope this helps

    Thank you lennieg2000.

One more question, if I may. Let's say she breaks-in the batteries as you recommend for 20 days, but then later does not use the chair for much more than 1000' per day - does it hurt the batteries to charge them for 10 hours overnight when they may only have discharged a little during the day? (Her memory is unreliable at this point.) Is it better to have an off-board charger that will automatically shut-off when the batteries are fully charged? Again, many thanks.

Sorry it took so long to answer wife had surgery and I was laid up awhile. What I would do is charge the chair at least once a week overnite after the breakin period is over If you visit regularly check that she doesn't run them down too low before she charges them. The onboard charger shouldn't overcharge the batteries so buying an off board isn't necessary Good Luck

Reading the charging gauge for a jazzy 1103 ultra

if you mean the lights, they are just a tool to estimate usage, if you mean the amp guage on the rear, depending on battery state, the needle can start at 2-5 amps and slowely go down as batts are fully charged, if left plugged in the charger will do a random maint charge, and move the needle slightly

My chair has been sitting for 4 months in garage. Chair MPV5 was rarely used. When charging, battery charger indicator shows green light. Chair still does not turn on. What should I be doing?

Replace the batteries and charge before use then charge nightly for 20 days Use the chair daily so you can get a good charge nightly to get the batteries operating at 100% After the 20 days If you don't use the chair daily always store fully charged and then charge once a week overnight. Should work fine once you get the new batteries in You will need to get 2 U1 batteries for your chair do not get Wally World or automotive batteries You must replace with sealed deep cycle batteries made for power chairs Hope this helps

Have a jet 3 power chair will not take a charge, can't tell that iy is charging

Cathey when you plug in the charger look at the rear of the chair at the meter if the chair is charging then the meter will indicate some amperage reading when it is fully charged the meter will read zero. Also turn on the chair and if the lights are scrolling or flashing it shows that the charger is plugged in. Now if after the meter reads zero (if it ever does) the lights on the joystick should all be lit indicating a full charge. If you aren't getting all the lights and the meter indicated the charger was working then you need to replace the batteries Hope this helps

I had not used the chair in 2 months, when i charged the battery in my electric wheelchair, the lights near the top of the joy stick shows its fully charge, but when i unplug the cord, it go's...

Yep It sure does Why didn't you charge the chair for 2 months? Charge at least once a week if you don't use it daily. Always break in the new batteries by using the chair daily for 10-15 days charging everynite then charge once a week if it sits for that long without use. Always put up fully charged. Do this and your batteries should last 3 -4 years Charge overnite if you use daily and never charge more than 24 hours Good Luck

I just gave my mother in law the jazzy 1103 ultra power chair... when you put it on.. the lights flash and the chair creeps along.. it happened all of a sudden.. it wont speed up.. this was donated so I...

tam The batteries need to be replaced. With the lights flashing indicating low voltage and the chair just creeping means weak batteries. With a donated chair you do not know how long the chair sat without being charged. You need to purchase 2 U1 batteries. If there is a battery warehouse store near you or an Interstate battery store check with them because your cost will be less than going through a provider. Hope this helps you

How do I know when the chair has charged? I see one red, two green, two yellow lights on.

If you have an off-board charger that plugs into the joystick there are two lights on the charger one red(power on) and the other yellow (turns green when fully charged). Plug it into the chair and if the light is green then you have fully charged the batteries. Now if you have the on-board charger the charger meter on the rear of the chair will resd zero when fully charged. Hope this helps ya
