take out the old one - the cap protecting it is on the bottom, held with one screw - and insert the new one: lift and pull then press and lower it.

Go to HP Support & Drivers.

Assuming you have another computer, or can get to one, being as you posted the help note, go to the manufacturer website and download the driver, they have them there. I just did a quick check, and there are lots of other places, too, with the driver for free download. Just put in the "Compaq EL81 lan driver xp" for the search.
