36 inch RCA 36v430t

I have a 36 inch RCA tv (model # 36V430T) that I bought new inn 2005 that I am having trouble with . My TV will work at times fine, then there is times I turn it on and it is great for but then the screen goes black and loses picture, sometimes I also lose the sound, but the green light in the power button stays on. I turn the power off and back on immediately and it might work great for 30 seconds or for days, but eventually it goes back to working intermittently. Any ideas??
Thanks Mike

No offense, but saying to call the repair shop to come and pick up is not much of a answer. Anyone could say that. My questions are, if it is a power supply problem, why does the light stay on? Can I at least purchase the part myself to save the cost of paying a middle man? If so, do you know where I can get it? I dont mind paying the labor but would like to save a few bucks if I can purchase the part myself and have it installed. The tv is only 2 1/2 years old, it was repaired once, 11 months after purchasing it. They replaced the PCB and transformer. But didnt act up again untill 2 months later and RCA would not cover it. Since then it would only act up occasionly, now it wont work at all. Any other help would be greatly appreciated

When the tv is plugged in, it tunrs on or on then off right away. Any ideas?

    Thanks

No, when I plug the power cord for the TV in, the TV turns on. Sometimes when I plug the cord in, it will turn on then off. It wont turn on unless I turn it back on.

Mike-It looks like the power supply is going on your tv-it can be replaced. This happens, usually, when little kids are playing wth the remote or power button on the tv. Turn it off and on a whole bunch of times in a row, kids love to do that, and it burns out the power supply part- to make a CRT tv like your RCA36 incher- which is a beautiful machine- I have the RCA/PROSCAN 36 incher-LAST longer...You should always wait 5 min between turning it off and on. Don't ever sell it. This one is worth fixing. It has better color and sound Than the new plasmas and lcds-The Pros know this. Be carefull, they might try and talk you out of it-so they can fix it and have it for themselves. So what if it's not High Deff. It's a great set.

You need to have the repair shop pick it up-the darn thing weighs nearly 200pounds-you cannot fix it yourself- unless you want to die. Even if it is unplugged for a couple of days the tube and it's magnets hold a VERY HIGH electrical charge. Touch the wrong thing and you are dead or the tv is dead-enough said?

You can search the internet for the power supply- you have all the info you need for that-But repair guys(at least in my experiance) are not ones who want to install a part they haven't dug up themselves. Good luck

If your tv turns itself on then off all by itself-and did it several times in sucession- you've probably got another problem going on. Like I mentioned before, when that happens, it can blow the power supply. Several things can cause it to cycle on/off/on/off.

An intermintant problem like that can drive a tech nuts. At least you now have described the whole problem well enough to give a tech a clear idea of what is going on. THAT has to be fixed before the power supply. You don't happen to have any other Infer Red controled electronics working in view of the IR reciever on the TV (Security cameras, kids toys, motion detectors, a microsoft IR wireless keyboard)? If you are lucky, removing the affecting IR transmitter MIGHT solve the problem. Mine will even detect the IR remote when it is pointing towards the ground in the next room, or reflections off the windows. It's just a machine-and can be confused. With luck your tv mightnot need a power supply. just remove the IR interferance. If that doesn't do it, you've got two problems that need repair. At that point, I'd call a tech, and see what an estimate would be. You are getting near the point of diminished returns.

Without seeing the actual set, I can only suggest some of the common things that can cause this. Based upon your description, I would first look for a poor solder connection where the AC cable connects to the board. Look in that area for any charred spots. Let me know if there are any. The bussing usually is arcing of the AC power.

36 inch RCA tv (model # 36V430T)

I wouldn't advise doing it yourself. All you have to do to kill yourself is touch the wrong part connected to the magnets on the back of the tube-even if it has been unplugged for a couple of days- no joke. The repair place will be better able to track down the part, and install it, and guarentee it. Be aware- it might take a week or two for them to just get the part-then they have to install it.
