My LG VX6000 will not start-up after trying to activate using Verizon's *228, option 1 activation process. It showed a successfull download/update. But after reseting it won't get past the white VZ Wireless screen. I have removed the battery and waited several minutes with no success when repowering.

To unlock the password on your LG Cosmos, you need to re-program your phone. This will default the code to the last four digits of you cell phone number.

You First need to temporarily activate the ESN (also known as MEID, HEX) off the back of your phone underneath the battery to you Verizon Wireless cell account.

You can change the ESN (Electronic Serial number) as follows:

1.) Verizonwireless.com

2.) Dialing *228 opt. 1 from the phone you want to activate, while the current activated phone is off

3.) by calling customer service to temporarily activate the phone (1-800-922-0204 or *611 from a Verizon Wireless handset not involved.

(note: most all phones, even if their locked should still be able to call 911 and the programming number (*228)

You can activate the phone for a day to an existing account just to do this if necessary.


Once you change the ESN on to a phone number and program it
Dial *228 on your phone, listen in and pick option 1 for programming.
after listening to music for about a minute or two you should hear "programming completed successfully"

Once you hear this you can hang up the call. The phone should reboot by itself.

If not power it down manually and then power it right back up.

now you should be able to unlock the phone with the last four digits of you cell phone number you chose to activate it too.

• Dial *228 and push "Send" to complete the call to the activation service. A screen will appear over the call timer that says "Programming in Progress..." and you should hear a voice recording say, "Welcome to Verizon Wireless Over-The-Air Programming."
  
• Press 1 for initial programming. This option is used if the phone has been deactivated or is being activated for the first time.
  
• Press 2 to update roaming information and to download a free software upgrade to enable better roaming coverage. Pressing 2 and choosing this option will assign your phone to another tower that should enable better reception, especially when roaming
  

The only way to "unlock" a phone from a Verizon account immediately is to have the account owner activate a different phone on their line. If the account owner simply closes the line, the phone will not be available to activate on another line until Verizon has closed out the final bill for the account, and if that bill is not paid in a timely fashion, the phone could wind up on the "blacklist" of unpaid accounts and be unable to activate on ANY Verizon account until the balance is paid.

Have the account owner find another phone to use, and then turn off the LG Rumor and dial *228 and choose option 1 from the other phone. Once the activation is complete, you can follow the same procedure to activate the Rumor on your line.

try calling activation and reprogramming the phone (this wont erase anything on the phone). For Verizon wireless dial *228 and use option 1 when prompted.

try this-
1. turn phone on
2. call *228
3. follow the instruction to automated activation system.

verizon has given me alot of **** about activating any new (or old) phone i've gotten because i dont upgrade my service. i just buy my phones off ebay for a way cheaper price.

if it is a verizon wireless do * 228 then option 2

If your service provider is Verizon Wireless, then dial *228 and press send. This will start activation, so when you hear the woman's voice (it's an automated message) choose option 1. The call will run for about 1-2 minutes. When it's finished the phone will beep and tell you programming is complete, so just press OK which reboots the phone.

This process, which only works on LG phones, resets the lock code to the last four digits of your phone number.

The default lock code for any Verizon Wireless phone is the last four digits of your phone number. If you've changed the lock code, then you have two options:

1. LG phones can be reprogrammed even when locked, so dial *228 and press Send. When you hear the woman's voice choose option 1. When the call ends the phone will reboot and your lock code will be changed back to the last four of your phone number.

2. Bring the phone into a Verizon Wireless store, where they can read the lock code off the phone using their computers.

In the case of the original poster - if your phone isn't activated at all, as in it is not currently active on any phone number, then go with the second option. You could, if you really wanted to, call Customer Service and have them put that phone onto your phone number, then when you activate it (*228, send, option 1) the lock code will be the last four of your phone number.

well first if all, (correct me if i'm wrong) you cannot dial *228 because you're only supposed to use that for updating your phone AFTER you have activated it, I activated mine online. You should try that.

Well option 2 is to update roaming capabilities option 1 is to just program the phone itself...
