You have to get the remote and transceiver to talk to each other. Remove all the batteries and wait a couple of minutes
before replaceing them. Place the transceiver in the REMOTE
position, press and hold down the LEARN button, and then
press the MODE button on the remote control. A change in the
beep tone will be heard and you have MARRIED the two devices. Should solve the problem.
Make sure you change the batteries in the remote and the receiver. My issue was the receiver. I did not realize that it had batteries. Once I changed them my issue was resolved. Now everything works.
Skytech model SKY-3001 (1997 LCD model). I FINALLY got the remote to talk with the transmitter, but unfortunately no suggestions in this forum or in the manual worked. The only way I got them to communicate was by removing every battery (receiver and remote), turned the receiver to OFF, waited a few minutes and then put the batteries in the receiver first, then in the remote, and then put the receiver switch to "Remote" position. It finally worked!!! I had been trying to press to learn button, then the mode button, pressing the learn button for 10 seconds, pressing both buttons at the same time, etc., and nothing worked until I basically started from scratch as stated above. Once I did this everything just started talking again and I didn't have to program the remote to learn a new code or anything. If nothing else, give it a try. I spent over an hour trying to get this figured out and still don't know how they just magically started talking again.
I'll been trying to get the transponder/remote to turn on the fireplace for 3 hours. Had it working, thought I was through, now again it beeps but won't light. New batteries, pilot is light, transponder is on either remote or on and now won't light. For 10 years' I've had the same problem. Never can figure out what makes it turn on.
Thanks Dawn. Followed your procedure outlined above and ours worked again just like yours.
This really did the trick and solve the problem for me - a saving of $300. My remote and receiver were already connected but the fireplace could never be turned on by the remote.
The key step is to switch the receiver to its OFF position and then empty all the AA batteries. Do the same with the remote control. Walk away for 10 min. This clear off the memory and/or does the reset job.
Come back and put the batteries back to both the receiver and the remote. Switch the receiver to REMOTE position and that's it.
NOTE:
1) Make sure you have fully charged batteries
2) Make sure your remote and receiver are connected
Thank you Dawn, this helped us tremendously. Like you mentioned it was as simple as you said. For over a year we were struggling to figure this out. So appreciate you posting this.
Simple? Never. And every year it's some other wacko combination of batteries, steps, sequence, pauses and timing. The one thing I always do is buy ALL NEW BATTERIES. After that, it's a different sequence of efforts every time. Making an appt with a repair person about 10 days out seems to work well in motivating incessant efforts to make it work. Patience is a virtue/Possess it if you can/It is rarely found in woman/And never found in ....well anyway. Hang in there, comrades, with a produce that was poorly designed from day one and yours for a lifetime!

Cannot get the thermostat to work after I changed batteries in both
I have a sky tech remote for my gas logs an i cannot get it to connect to the receiver it displays a # 6 in the settings
Does it seem to anyone else that all this is VERY unnecessarily complicated and idiosyncratic? I have a full 8.5x11" sheet of instructions to myself for the annual nightmare of getting these things going. And the latest alternative in Manhattan is a vendor who will come out and "help" you for a $500 minimum service charge on a 1.5-2 week scheduling waitlist. I have advanced degrees and regularly service many household appliances--I even know every single feature of my TV remote :-) But the manufacturers must build this into the product because NO ONE would ever buy a Skytech setup system if they knew it was going to be as much trouble as having a baby.
Many thanks for your answer. Same remote, changed the batteries in both the remote and receiver, switched to off, pushed the learn and the mode and... voila...
Thank u again!
I can not even get it to "beep" when trying to follow the "learn" instructions. There is no connection at all between the remote and the reciever. Brand new batteries installed just now, the "mode" changes the the display screen as it should but nothing happens. Could there be something else wrong?
