Closed Captions won't work

We don't have hd at our house. we have an old tv so i just have a modulator and hook up the dvd player with a composite connection. i have a hard time seeing movies so i was trying to turn on closed captioning (the movie did not have english subtitles) and although the DVD contains closed captioning and i turn on closed captioning in the set-up menu, the captions won't come out. anybody have any idea what might be wrong?

the dvd player does have closed captioning abilities. it discusses it in the manual and is available in the set-up menu. however, when i turn cc on in the set-up menu the captions still don't appear when i'm playing a dvd.

Make sure your dvd player has the capability to display closed captions, as not all of them do, also if it does have the capabilities, it may need a scart connection.

OK, understood. Unfortunately, other than the scart lead suggestion i can think of nothing more that would help, sorry. Good luck

How hook up dvd player to tv. what channel put tv on to see dvd pitcure

You should be connecting your DVD player to either an HD input or a composite video connection. Most modern TV SHOW will have at least 2 HD connections. On your TV setup menu there should be an HD connection to choose (probably HD-2) You will need to switch your input selection on your TV menu between HD/TV for TV and HD2 for DVD. It's hard to give specific directions without knowing the TV and DVD models.

I can't get closed caption off my dvd player

Some DVD players cannot handle closed captions. Cheaper or older hardware players sometimes strip out the closed caption data. Players that have a progressive scan mode sometimes block captions when in this mode. And anything that's connected with an HDMI cable can't pass through captions. Most software players that you use when you play a DVD on your computer don't have any way to decode the captions. Windows Media Player can display DVD captions, and Apple DVD Player can display pop-on captions but not roll-up style captions. Certain paid versions of WinDVD and PowerDVD have CC capability. Look in your player's preferences to see if there are any closed caption options.

I dont know what chords to use to hook up a dvd player to the pfm-42v1 tv. the tv doesnt have a yellow, red or white connection

Hello bobbylanetra,
if your tv does not have the composite connection (the red, white and yellow), I am going to assume that you have a coax in though. So what you should do is get an RF modulator. Connect your dvd player OUT to the RF modulator IN with the composite cable, then use a coax cable and connect the RF modulator OUT to the coax IN of the tv. That should solve your issue. I hope this helps or if not give me a feedback, good luck.

How do I hook up the DVD/VCR to cable box and Vizio HDTV?

both should be hooked directly to tv

VCR side of combo should be hooked up with composite video(yellow, red, white wires) to video 1 input

DVD side of combo should be hooked up component video (red, blue, green wires and red white for sound)

cable box should be hooked up HDMI or component to TV if HD or composite video if SD

hope this helps

good luck

Adapter

Is the inside of the plug on your tv yellow? If so, then you can only connect the tv using a composite cable, which means it needs to receive a composite connection. In your case, you've probably got a dvd player that you're trying to hook up using component (red green and blue cable). Unfortunately, you can't just reduce a component to composite, so there aren't any plain old adapters that will work and converters are pricey.

Do you have a composite (single yellow connector) or your dvd player? If you're not sure, post the Manufacturer and Model # of your dvd player.

If you have composite out on the player, that's how you will have to hook it up. if you don't have a single composite cable, just use one of the connections from the component cable. Just remember to use the same color on both ends.

Closed caption and black square

your TV do not disable close caption in composite mode. It may in component mode. Please make sure that the close caption in your TV menu is not set to "text"
Please be advice that CC :Text is the ONLY one that can give you a black box.

Closed caption on dvds

Your TV will need to have (CC) capability. To view Closed Captioning (CC) information from a DVD using the CC function of the television, turn off the Progressive Scan function of the DVD player. If the DVD player doesn't have progressive scan then follow the instructions from your TV manual to setup closed captioning.
