Faults & possible causes to LCD screen are given with illustrations. You can get an idea about the fault to an extent.
Your TV is an LCD rear projection type which requires a Mercury Vapor lamp. Mercury Vapor lamps emit UV light which is damaging to many materials. The discoloration you are seeing on the screen is the UV damage that has resulted over time to the LCD panels within the “Optical Block” (aka projector) of the TV. This discoloration has been creeping up on you for sometime, it just wasn’t as noticeable until you changed the lamp. Once you installed the new lamp, the UV light is bad at full force and the damage progresses at a quicker pace, due to the already weakened state of the LCD panels. Additionally, the picture is now brighter, exposing the damage for you to clearly see. The only fix for this problem is to replaced the Optical Block… an expensive repair. Although this is not good news, I hope this helps you understand the cause & solution and was of some assistance.
the problem you are having is with the light engine it is a comon issue on this type of tv. the reason you now notice it is before the lamp had grown weak so it wasn't vissible now the lamp is bright and you can see the discoloration the part you need is expensive but not to hard to replace yourself if you are careful
This, sadly is getting to be a very common problem with all Projection LCD TV's Colored Blotches on an LCD Projection TV are usually caused by defects or marks on filters or lenses on one of the LCD panels themselves which are all located in the light engine (or optical block) First confirm that the lamp or main lens is not discolored by removing the lamp (unplug set and let cool before removing!) and visually inspecting the lamp itself and the lens that it shines onto. The light engine is an expensive part ($600-$1200) to replace and requires major disassembly. Have a tech confirm-Get an estimate -Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!
A discolored Blob, loss of one color or blotchy pattern usually in the center of the screen. The problem is becoming all too common with Hitachi projection sets. What happens is that one of the lenses in the optical block (or light engine) starts to burn or discolor due to overheating because of a blocked air filter causing poor air (cooling) circulation. Nothing can be done when the damage is too far-gone except to replace the light engine-at a cost that makes it not worth repair. if the damage is minimal than to reduce further damage, the air filter should be replaced. The Light engine needs to be removed in order to replace the air filter. Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks! does the TV still turn on? you should get between 3000-6000 hours of life out of your lamp. You can pull the lamp out and see if there is any discoloration in the center, if there is then it might be a good idea to do a little preventative maintenanceand replace it.
It sounds like you have a bad Blue Polarizer in the light path. I'm sorry but that is something you will have to contact a service center for. It's not something you'll be able to do yourself, I'm sorry, but that's the best advice I can give you.
I would suggest to try to get this TV fix while still under warranty. Normally the manufacturers give one year.
In regards to the discoloration, there is not much you do but to let the Sony authorized repair center knows about it so they can fix it. Ask them if their work is guarantee as well for how long.
Good Luck.
It sounds like you have a damaged Packlight Pipe Module.
Very cheap part to have replaced.
Easiest way to check is to switch on the unit and tilt it from side to side - if the darkened bits move , you can count on it that this is your problem.
