I just purchased a new Westinghouse flat screen t.v. and it is currently hooked up to a regular DVD player. It is not hooked up to cable as I only want it to play movies. Once hooked up, it's displaying a yellow triangle on the screen with an exclamation point that says PSCAN and the DVD movie is split in half.

Does your DVD player have RCA outs on the back (the red, yellow & white sockets) and does the rear of your TV have the same? Some new flat screen DTV's no longer have RCA inputs and only have the flat, rectangular HDMI inputs. All current generation DVD players are Bluray and require a HDMI cable and DTV to support them. Match the connections with the right cable between the 2 devices and identify what input is being used on the TV in the 'AV' settings.
You will need to consult your manuals, or look at the hookup panels on each type of equipment.
RCA Cables will probably be used between the VCR and TV, and they may also be used for the DVD player.
HDMI cables may be required and look like this.
Finally, you may see a small square socket which is used for optical cables.
All you need to do is determine what cables will be used based upon what the appliance has to offer, and then procure them and hook the system up. My TV currently uses all three types.
If it does not have a regular 3 line cable connector on back of tv screen you need to buy an adapter for it. I know most of the TV's I have including a older flat screen they have the HDMI connection or the 3 cable connection with yellow, white, red connections on back of tv for these older devices. Rich
double check the wires are in the correct connections on both the tv and dvd player also the KHL dvd player may need to be put in progressive scan. Usually the red wire for video and the one for audio get plugged into the wrong input and causes this issue
you have a flat screen, look on the back of the flat panel for digital in (yellow, white & red jacks). this will be connected to yes the DVD player. using your tv remote switch the source enable to watch a DVD. you comcast cable is still connected to watch this simply switch back to cable source..
DVD players do not connect using regular cable connections Your flat screen TV should have separate Audio and Video connections. These are the connections that you should use to connect your VCR and DVD player. If you have a combo unit, that is a single unit that has both DVD and VHS in one box, you might be able to get your VCR to work on the cable connection. However your DVD will not be able to work as the cable connection doesn't allow enough information to pass through. If you go to your local Audio Video store and tell them what you want to connect they should have the cables you need for less than $10.00. Good luck.
