The Maxtor One Touch has a 12V transformer that steps down the 1110Vac to 12V ac and then runs it through a circuit board in the transformer package, that then converts it to 12V dc. That 12V dc (really 14V dc without a load) is then outputted through the attached cord to the jack that goes into the drive. If you look at the data plate on the transformer package, you can discern this information.
A pictoral schematic neg----- C<-----pos appears on the package showing that the shell of the jack is negative while the pos is the inside pin. This is only used on DC applications. Also words on the package say input 110 output 12v dc.

Hi,

Sata drives use both 5V and 12V power. The standard SATA connector found on most current power supplies carries both. If you're trying to rig up some temporary power just hit your local PC shop and ask for a Molex to Sata adapter that will connect your old power supply to the new drive or pickup a USB to SATA adapter kit as they usually have there own Sata capable power adapter.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Lost my AC / DC power adapter for Maxtor 3200 Personal Storage , where can I find one to buy?

The following site guarantees compatible replacement.
http://www.lcdpayless.com/productpage.php?productId=2511

I've been searching for a replacement as well. I found the specs on the original cord at the following site.
http://www.libertye-online.com/servlet/the-1642/new-APD-I.T.E.-POWER/Detail

12V, 2A, positive inner post, 2.5 inner diameter (ID) and 5.5 outer diameter (OD).

I don't think I would buy the exact replacement ADP brand fom the site above. Many have complained about it failing at the 2-yr point. I am considering the following replacement from the same website.
http://www.libertye-online.com/servlet/the-1218/new-Challenger-I.T.E.-POWER/Detail

NOTE: the input AC voltage range is different on this one, but it should still work in the USA.

There are other options on ebay.

Let us know if anyone has specific success with any of these or others.
