Google homepage default
What is your browser? Each browser has different methods of fixing this. It is also possible you have a type of malware that forces specific search engines and homepages on you, and takes over your browser. I'd install malwarebytes if you haven't already and spybot search and destroy. Run both of them and remove any viruses, malware, and hijackware from your computer.
If it is internet explorer: Go to internet options under control panel. Change your default search engine here, your default homepage, etc. If it's IE 11 or newer you can fix this in the browser's options. If you see a URL in the homepage url that you didn't choose, you have hijackware. Uninstall the hijackware via control panel program features. You should also delete the settings and reset them to default. Then run antivirus, anti-malware, etc.
If it's Firefox go to options(via the drop down menu on the left side of the search field next to the URL field. It should look like a little downward pointing arrow). Click the option "manage search engines" You should see a list of search engines. Move Google to the top of the list. As a homepage, go to the "stacked bar" pull down menu on the far right side of the browser (right under the X out button). This will give you a drop down, click Options under this menu and it will open a new window with several tabs. On the first tab called "general" you'll see Startup and a drop down menu. This will allow you to choose if Firefox, when opened anew, starts with a blank page, a homepage, or from where it last started up. Click homepage and in the field below this drop down menu type in google's url. If you see anything else here and you didn't put it in, you have hijackware on your computer.
If it's Chrome, click on the drop down menu on the far right side (three black stacked lines) click settings. This will open a new tab in Chrome with History, Extensions, Settings, and About on the left side. You'll be in the "Settings" option. On which you'll see "Sign In" with the option of logging into your google account. "Startup" or "On Startup" with three options "Open The New Tab Page, Open where you left off, Open a Specific Page or Set of Pages.[This option should have a "Set pages" in blue next to it]. Click Set Pages. This should open a new window that whites out the background window. If a page has been set without your permission it will have a URL appear here. This means you have hijackware on your computer. If it's blank you can set google as your homepage by entering its URL here. However, with Google Chrome, if you set "open The New Tab" option it should just open a blank Tab with Google Search as the primary option. Below this you'll find "Manage Search Engines" make sure that your default search engine is Google. If it's "Ask" and you didn't set this yourself, you have Hijackware on your computer. As a last resort, click the blue lettered "Advanced Settings" which extends the settings menu. At the bottom of the settings menu you'll see "Reset Settings" which brings Chrome back to default.
If you do have hijackware it has probably installed itself as an extension. Go through your extensions and make sure that nothing is out of place. No search extensions, no new weirdly named extensions, no "helper" extensions or search bars were installed. If they were, uninstall them by clicking the trashcan icon next to it.
Is this for Internet Explorer? Also what version?
