If this ia an older model Maytag top loader, this problem is usually caused by a worn snubber assembly and/or brake assembly. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574320-maytag_washer_squeaking_problem

I have included part numbers for tools you may need and some advice on what you can do to avoid having to purchase any higher priced special tools.

Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com
Recommendations on parts that may require replacement:

Brake Rotor with Lining
Brake Stator Snubber
The part numbers will be based on your MODEL NUMBER.

Prices will vary between the sites I have listed, so shop and compare. The first three sites I have listed, have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and properly identfying the parts you need. If you search by model number, these parts are listed under the "Transmission" parts list. This is not a difficult repair, and the parts (including most of the tools) are not expensive.

If you have any questions about this repair, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Maytag Performa PAV920AWW makes squeeling sound when agitating/spinning. Water does not drain completely during spin.

Sounds like brake is partially engaged. There is s kit that may fix that. Part # 12002213.

I have a maytag atlantis washer that will completely fill at the beginning of the cycle, stop, then make a very loud squeeling noise, stop, and now will not advance through any cycle...even manually. We...

Hello,

The not completly filling and squeeling makes me want to look at the screen on the water valve that the hoses attach to on the rear of the machine for blockage preventing water flow,to me the squeeling is the solonoids on the water valve calling for water yet no water coming in. IF you manually fill the washer using buckets of water/a hose what will happen? perhaps try that!!
Also if you have the "aquaflow flood stop" hoses the internal stopper in the hose is bad, replace hoses using standard hoses

Good luck,i hope this helps you to fix your washer,

My washer washes ok but spin cycle doesnt always work... when it does it stops right away and squeels like when u slam on the brakes of a car instead of slowing to a halt...

Hello,

Sounds like your belt is slipping. or your motor is going bad. I would suggest that you take off the back of your unit and then run it. It should tell you everything you need to know. The screws are usually a hex but a good pair of pliers could do the trick. let me know what you see.

I have a 2001 Sonata. I have a squeeling pulley.

It sounds like you have a worn or streched belt making the sqeeling noise. Whenever you turn on a
device in the car that draws a fair amount of voltage
ie. a/c or headlights it will cause increased drag on
the alternator and if you have a loose/worn or glazed
belt, it can slip around the pully making the squeel.
To adjust the alt-a/c belt loosen the mounting bolts
on the tensioner, then use the adjuster bolt behind
the tensioner pully to loosen and tighten the belt.
Be sure to check the belt for cracks bald spots etc.
While the belt is loose spin the pullys to make sure
they all spin freely. Also I would replace the belt just
to be sure. Hope this helps

Belt would squeel , bearings would chatter. try a bit of hard soap on belt. If it quites down the belt is slipping

Squeeling sound on spin cycle

This sounds like the same problem I had with my 887-327. It seems that coins can fall into the water pump from the bottom of the drum. I had to pull the water pump off the direct drive and turn the blades until the dimes came out. After I reinstalled the pump everything was quite again.

Squeeling noise

It could be just a dry belt and pulley. You could try the old squeeking car fan belt trick and rub soap on the belt. You can even buy sticks of anti-squeek from automobile outlets.
