If the zoom stopped working so there is a mecanical problem, if you try to use the zoom and it does not respond so service is required to get the zoom working properly.

Hi - i have a Lumix DMC-LX2 that has just recently stopped operation - (for example) when set to (scene) the screen simply scrolls repeatedly thru the scene choices non-stop. When taken out of scene mode...

sounds like the button or direction joystick is making continuous contact. You could try using canned air on it to blow it out. Otherwise i would get it professionally cleaned. Nice camera by the way.

HF10 zoom goes without any explicit request

My HF10 started to mysteriously autozoom as well, and I had made no setup changes. I don't have exactly the same symptoms as you describe except that it would begin to zoom when I didn't want it to. I noticed the [I.AF] (Instant AutoFocus) icon, so I went into the menu (Camera Setup - AF Mode) and turned the "Instant AF" to "Normal AF". After that, the autozoom seemed to have stopped. I set it back to "Instant AF" and it did not autozoom again. I wouldn't know how to turn the autozoom back on again even if I wanted to, but thankfully it appears to be gone now. Hopefully it will stay in manual zoom mode. Hope that helps.

Hello ..my focus function has stopped working..

no new camera is required, you have just changed the settings and it can be modified if you just calmly go through the manual given to you by the manufacturer.

how to change image size:
turn on camera and leave it in camera mode (picture taking mode)
press the delete/image button
change image size until camera zooms again
VGA gives the biggest zoom range

i hope this helps

Over exposure when zooming

If you want to be able to use optical zoom try getting a more advanced camera because cameras like Nikon Coolpix 4300 does`nt have quality zoom its very poor and you can see it yourself the images gets blurry when maximize your zoom.

Digital Zoom not working

Check the camera's "shooting mode". By default "digital" zoom is NOT on. Instead, according to the manual, you actually have to set it on as part of the camera's shooting mode setting. It's accessed from the main menu (Ok button), choose right arrow, then up and right to choose the "camera" settings. You should see the setting for "digital" and you may see it's OFF, in which case just turn it ON.

There is also a group portrait mode shooting program that can set the optical zoom to WIDE only. This is accessed by hitting the left arrow when you turn the camera on (the circle with the dots). By default it should be "P" for auto program, but if it's set to the icon with 2 people in it, that appears to set wide angle only.

Alas, I checked this last thing on mine and it just seems the lens is stuck (I hear a short whir and that's it, and it is set on "P"). Any suggestions for a mechanical repair?

Zoom lens

Oh I'd love to be able to see this one. OH well. What batteries are you using? If they are ordinary alkaline, then you should get a set of NiMH rechargable batteries. (As strong as you can find) If the problem continues, taale the camera into Nikon and send your friend the bill.
