TV: vertical colored lines on TOSHIBA TV Model 36ZP46P

The screen of my (conventional tube technology) TOSHIBA 36" TV, Model 36ZP46P frequently changes to brightly colored vertical lines, as if the tube's vertical amplifier suddenly & intermittently fails. The fault is intermittent in nature. It comes & goes regardless of whether it is showing a TV pic from its analogue built-in tuner or running a freeview pic from an external source.

The TV sometimes switches itself to standby and puts on a green clock-like indicator on the front panel. I presume this is a service indicator. Is the fault I've described very common - perhaps with a known solution?

Tv set picture is gone

It depends, the center line you speak of, does it go from side to side? Or top to bottom? Side to side you have problems in the vertical circuit. Top to bottom you have a problem in the horizontal circuit. Not picture tube problem. If it is an analog tv and depending on how old it is. What an estimate and the actual repair would be you are better off buying a new one.

Tv trouble

Sorry, I can't help you with the computer password issue but I can help you with the TV.

The problem you are having is a vertical deflection problem. The screen is being compressed to a thin white line. It's probably a defective vertical output module or transistor. This part is not too expensive. Less likely would be a vertical deflection coil, which would be more expensive because its usually glued to the picture tube and harder to replace. You'll need to take your set to service center to have it serviced.

Good Luck!

Toshiba 36AF43 36" just has white line in the center

vertical output IC has loose solder joints.if you continue to let it operate this way it will etch a burn line across the face of the tube so discontinue use.
