I used a similar method when I had my Cruz Reader R101. This process is called "side-loading" You will have to download a file to your computer (not your tablet), remove the SD media card from your cruz, then transfer the downloaded file from your computer to it, then replace the SD card to your cruz.
You need to update your tablet, or update the programming on your tablet. Apparently all the android 2.2 tabs are considered "legacy" models and don't support the newest google and java script. Since this is what the net primarily uses, those of us with the Cruz are hosed.
You could open up the back and disconnect the battery for a minute and reconnect. The battery is the big gray in the back with the white/red/black cable. I got mine to load up, but it then froze at the Cruz logo. I've seen this problem a lot with the readers, maybe it has something to do with Google changing the App store to it's new name and these readers will not support it.
This is a "solution" that has worked for a number of similar problems. Try it at your own risk; if at all possible, contact Velocity for warranty support.
1. Place a towel on a table and put the Micro Cruz face down on the towel.
2. Slide a tiny flat head screwdriver around the edge of the back to remove the paneling.
3. Unplug the battery for 5 seconds, then plug it back in.
4. Boot up your Micro Cruz
This is a common solution to the symptoms you described, but you may find you have a more serious issue due to the fact you were using it and it unexpectedly shut off.
Please refer to page 13 of this guide. It tells you how you can transfer files from your computer onto your Cruz Reader. You can transfer all your songs this way:
Sorry to hear your are having issues with your Cruz Reader. I have a Cruz Reader R101. Unfortunately you have to update via the SD card for the Cruz Reader. It doesn't do a firmware update from the USB cable.
If you don't want to try and update it now you could also try to just restart it. If you can't get it to restart normally you can remove the back cover and unplug the battery, then plug it back in.
The easiest way, if you don't have CruzSync on your computer, is with an SD card. Copy the files onto it then put the SD card in your Cruz. Then open Astro from the home screen and find your new SD card and open that up. Or you can use the cradle to transfer files. Open one internal browser to the cruz and one to your e-books then copy and paste them over. You'll fill up your internal memory pretty quickly this way, though.
