I wasn't prompted the first few times either, but I turned off the wireless on my literati and then plugged it in and when it gave the prompt for new hardware I clicked on it and this time rather than being unknown it installed and now shows:
Your devices are ready to use
The software for this device has been successfully installed. USB Mass Storage Device Ready to use and Linux File-Stor Gadget USB Device Ready to use.
Once I had installed it I was able to run everything just as this file shows:

Hopefully this information will help you if you don't get the correct prompt. But first try disengaging from your wireless in case that was what prevented me from originally getting my prompt.
Sounds
like you need to install drivers.
Always
get your drivers and specific software from the manufacturer of your
Laptop, Notebook or Desktop. They are usually free of charge.
If you were to log on to the
manufacturer's
web
site,
usually one is able to download if available, by model
number,
All
available Driver
downloads
as required.
If the driver is not
available, perhaps your manufacturer does not support the OS you are
installing.
This is the best way of ensuring up to
date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!
I hope this helps.
If you were to log on to the
manufacturer's
web site, usually one is able to download if
available, by model number, Customer
Instruction Manuals, list
of Dealers,
for
spare parts and service, Driver
downloads
and
Installation Instructions as required.
This is the best way of ensuring up to

There
are no XP drivers to be found with Microsoft as XP is no longer
supported.
Some
manufacturers may have a limited number of Drivers still listed.
I hope this helps.
If you were to log on to the
manufacturer's web site, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as
usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer
Instruction Manuals, list
of Dealers,
Driver
downloads
and
Installation Instructions
as required.
Just Google the manufacturer's name and
follow the links. Make certain you are directed to the manufacturer's
web site as some search engines direct you to other sites and they
charge for the information that is normally free of charge.
I hope this helps.
