I am trying to get an Intel based mac mini to display on Sharp Aquos LC-45GX6U TV. I am using a dvi-to-dvi cable.
When initially connected, it worked fine, outputting at 1280x768 at 60Herz. It is not the native resolution for that TV, but close enough to display OK. I tried to play around with resolutions and as soon as I switched to another res, the TV showed a black screen with a message "signal is not compatible with this input". The funny thing is that when restarting the mac, it shows the boot screen fine with 1280x768 at 60hz shown in the right top corner of the TV. However, as soon as it boots, it goes back to the black screen with the dreaded message.
I have tried connecting other monitor(s) and TVs (all of which work fine) and then changing the resolution back to 1280x768, then reconnecting to Sharp Aquos. It doesn't work.
I have tried clearing PRAM and NVRAM - it doesn't work. Still gives the same message.
I tried deleting plist files on the mac (which supposedly save monitor settings) - it doesn't work.
I tried booting it in safe mode and it worked worked, if you reboot in normal mode, it goes back to the dreaded messaged. I then tried going back to safe mode and playing with resolution there. Once I did this, it showed the black screen with the message in safe mode and now the safe mode does not work either.
Please help!
I suggest that you get this product for hassle free HDMI connections for your TV. Its a HDMI cable and you dont have to worry about settings as your TV is HDMI ready.

Good Luck!
Sai.
Can you change the signal format in the display settiings? 1080p is the native one on your monitor, try difrent ones if availabe. also test difrent resolutions.
the signal coming from the laptop is not compatible with the tv so you need to change the format or other settings in there.
I suspect the signal format changes as you start up, the initial format is ok. but then it changes?
Well the problem is the signal that comes from your mac to the tv.
RNKC123 I think you can buy a adapter which also inputs sound to the hdmi port on the tv.
heres a example
http://www.gefen.com/kvm/product.jsp?pro...
The DVI Audio to HDMIâ„¢ Adapter is a unique device that combines digital video (DVI) and digital audio into HDMIâ„¢ to seemlessly integrate into the modern home theater. This adapter connects DVI home theater devices or DVI video graphic cards to HDMI compliant digital monitors. This adapter also takes digital audio and encodes it onto the HDMI signal for the full HDMI video and audio effect. With the DVI Audio to HDMI Adapter home theater devices and computer systems can be easily connected any HDMI display for the full digital video and audio experience.
also im curious, do you see both of our solutions or only eagles solution at the time?

Try the adapter that Ekse has suggested. It also inputs sound to the HDMI port of the TV.
incredible price tag, 299 I didn't notice that before.

Re: Solution 1
The problem is that once the screen goes black, you cannot change anything. You can only connect another monitor (that displays fine) and change from there. I tried chaning to all possible resolutions that the video card can output this way, it does not work. It seems that that mac mini somehow remembers the monitors that are connected to it, so when I am chaning with another monitor plugged in, it changes and remembers the setting just for that other monitor. However, when I reconnect the TV, it remembers the "wrong" resolution for that TV. I tried resetting PRAM and NVRAM on mac mini, which supposed to solve this according to apple support, but it doesn't. I saw a number of other posts on the internet with people describing the same problem, but nobody seems to be able to offer a working solution.

-Yes, I know that. The question is how do I change the signal, to something that the TV will accept.
Eagle 336 - your solution works. It is not perfect, becase DVI does not carry sound and HDMI input does not have secondary input for optical or minijack sound. But at least it shows the picture.
Now I can only see your solution. Eagle's solution disappeared after your recent comments.
