Usually this is a driver problem, in which you have the wrong driver trying to configure the wireless. Some wireless drivers and cards are so similar that they will install and either show and network but won't connect, or show the card working but won't see the network. Take the cover off the bottom and get the make and model of the card, then find the right driver either at Dell's support site or driverguide.com. Dell uses several different wireless cards and checking the make and model of the card is the only sure way of knowing you have the correct driver.

So I turn on my Dell Inspiron 1526 and all that happens is the fans fun but nothing else. No hard drive lights at all. Suggestions?

Go inti the BIOS settings and see if the BIOS detects the hard drive.
If not then re-seat the hard drive to make sure it is connected properly.
If the hard drive still isn't detected, then most likely the hard drive is faulty.
In this case to get the Dell operating again, replace the hard drive, install Windows on the new hard drive plus install the Dell Inspiron 1526 device drivers and your programs.

I have dialup. i can't download or playback music

Check with your local ISP (Internet Subscription Provider) if they have a wireless modem/router so you can connect to the internet wirelessly.

They will be the one to configure your internet settings.

My dell inspiron 1545 wont connect to linsys-g

Your laptop may have a pre-defined Ip address locked in for your work connection. Did your buddy use the laptop at your place of employment, or was it used at his home? Sometimes an ip is entered manually in the tcp/ip menu locking it to a certain address. To check this opem metwork connections in control panel and right click your wireless device then choose properties and left click. Scroll to the TCP/IP line and go to properties. Make sure everything thereis set to automatic.

Have wireless internet but no connection to laptop. where's the switch on the laptop to turn it back on?

Hi !

Most of the laptop wireless switch is on the side of the laptop. If there is no physical switch, press the Fn+F2(wireless symbol) to enable the laptop. Double check the wireless LAN if enabled in the system setup. To access system setup, press F2 while the system is booting-up.

Hope this helps !

Thanks.

Inspiron 6000 has trouble picking up wireless signal

Some wireless cards are better than others at picking up weaker signals.
The problem with any wireless transmissions is that radio signals cannot pass through metallic surfaces.
You should position your wireless router away from metallic surfaces/walls and position your laptop so it can receive the radio signals without it passing through any metallic walls. If possible place the wireless router higher than at desk level.
