I had this same issue. I solved it. The USB cable will NOT work to transfer video. You need a IEEE-1395 fire wire cable. I purchased the internal card and cable for under $20.00 for my DELL computer direct from dell. After you connect your camcorder to your computer, I clicked on windows photo gallery. Then in top left corner, click file and "import from camera or scanner. Your camcorder must be on video mode and play mode. Your computer should recognize the camcorder, click on it and then it will give you options, like you can upload and record direct onto DVD. I liked the option of uploading manually because if there are blank sections on the DV tape, the computer will stop uloading. Hope this helps.
My husband bought this camcorder at a garage sale. I couldnt get it to work at all with the USB and the the computer wouldnt recognize the camcorder at all. I installed Windows Photo Gallery and the camera was recognized! I was able to get the video onto my computer!

Does this camera use a memory card? Do you have the software that came with the Camcorder installed on the computer? If not do so or read the memory card directly with a USB card reader.
