The solution is to buy an old Kenmore without all the electronics. I won't let my wife buy a new washer I just use older ones & repair them for a lot less money for parts & not as often.Just the way I do it.We are useing two old Maytags over 30 years old & they work great with no problems.
timer needs new electric motor to advance from rinse to spin cycle. or alternately ,you can have your old timer taken out of your washer and sent out to be rebuilt or buy a new timer. in any case , you will need a kenmore washing machine repairman to take out your old timer and send it away to be rebuilt and expect that to take 2 or 3 weeks the timer rebuild used to cost$ 50.00 in 1993 and a new timer went for $110.00 to $129.00 for a sevice man to take out and reinstall a timer $60.00 to 100.00 labor try to google.com or bing.com or ask.com-----and type in : kenmore washing machine, rebuilt timer. you will need the model number of the washer as well as the model number of the timer and the timer may have a different name that kenmore also try typing in kenmore washer, new replacement timer try call sears and see how much their service man wants to put in a new timer. I am sure prices have gone up since 1993 when I retired from the major appliance repair busness. i could do the timer remove & install, but I probably live 1000 miles from you. another option: knowing that you will need to spend around $200.00 or more by the time you get a new timer installed you might want to see how much lowes or home depot wants for their cheapest bottom of the line washer. that might be a good alternative as it allows you to get a new washer and buy an extended warantee so you dont get stuck with another 200.00 repair. I think they have washers starting at 289.95 only 90.00 morte that repairing your old washer which is going to run for how many more years before it again gives you trouble? check out lowest prices on bottom of the line washers unelse you want to spend a lot on a fancy washer to make yourself happy. you can shop on line by just google.com or bing.com and the name of the store. home depot, lowes, sears, walmart and type in clothes washers.
Go to a local Sears or Whirlpool store and tell them you have an old "belt drive" Kenmore washer that needs a new belt. All of these were built by Whirlpool Corporation and I believe used a common belt.
Open up the washer, grab the metal basket and lift it up and down. If there is any play in it then buy a new washer. Replacing that spindle and bearing is not cheap. Spindle can only be purchased by also buying a new basket and that can cost $500.00 or more just in parts.
If this is what the inside drum does at all, then it is toast. Washer Spin Basket Part Number 131618500 Sears PartsDirect
This is the basket for your washer and it is $314
And if you decide to go that route then you will need the outer rear tub because the bearing is part of that tub and it is $246 Washer Outer Rear Tub Part Number 131462800 Sears PartsDirect You also have to ask yourself that since it is 9 years old, If I replace the tub and drum what else will go out? The motor? It's $120. What about the drain and re circulation pumps? Well it's $82. It will be cheaper on you to bite the bullet and purchase a new unit.
Here is an interesting report I just read!!!!!!!!!!
Repair or replace?
When to pull the plug on your old washer
Typically, you'll also find a troubleshooting section for more-serious problems in the owner's manual.
Should you pay for a repair or buy a new model? The answer depends mostly on the age of your washer, how much you bought it for,and the cost of the repair.
Follow these guidelines:
When a repair makes sense.
If your washer is under warranty or less than four years old , paying for a repair makes sense. Note that washers under warranty might require service from a factory-authorized technician; readers have found them on a par with independent repairers.
When a repair might be a wise choice.
If your washer is out of warranty and is four to seven years old, it might make sense to pay for a repair. Customers generally pay $100 to $200 for a repair. But you might want to buy a new model even at this stage, given that today's models have added features. Higher energy efficiency is another plus: Energy Star-qualified models made after April 28, 2008, are 43 percent more efficient than conventional models built before 2001 and 56 percent more efficient than those built before 1993.
When it pays to replace.
The repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new washer. Data also shows that it doesn't pay to fix a less-expensive washer eight or more years old.
Thanks to better recycling programs, less than 10 percent of washers you replace are likely to end up in a landfill.

all kenmore named washer will have 110 as first 3 digits of model #..the he washers are usually good washers..like all front loads they have their quirks ..if you read reviews from other consumers they indicate problems ..most of which are easily remedied by reading owners manuals..mold /mildew usually a bleach clean every few months ..vibration need real solid floor..oversuds use HE detergents only..just a matter of changing mind set from top loads with 25 gals of water each fill to a front load with 5-6 gals each fill..top load with 750-850 rpm spin speed to front load 1000-1200 rpm ..if willing to learn proper use and what to expect they can best investment..just don't let opinions of those unwilling to adapt affect your decision
