Firstly you of all, we all know that wifi means Wireless fidelity. So we can use it on our phones. it's like a wave. but when we want to connect our pc which doesn't have nic card then we have to use wire which connected to wifi\router. By the way, if we want to hook up a wireless router to a cable router we have to take some process. as like connect the router and the modem with an Ethernet cable. Most routers come packaged with a short Ethernet cable that you can use for this. otherwise, the isp provider gives us a short cable for pc and laptop when the internet connection complete with the router. then we can easily connect the wireless router to a cable router. Once the cable router is finished syncing-up and the cable router should provide an IP address to the wireless router.

Connect your router to your modem.
How to Set Up a Wireless Router (with Pictures) - wikiHow
I had my cable company set their equipment to bridge mode, this will allow you to use your router as the wireless access point, instead of their equipment. Then set up your router as you normally would.
If you already have a cable router, then you don't want to use a wireless router. You will want to use a wireless access point instead.
The reason for this is that anything plugged-in to your cable router will not be able to access anything connected to the wireless router due to the NAT firewall in the wireless router.
If the wireless router has the option to make it a "Gateway", then that will fix this issue; otherwise, take the router back and buy a wireless access point instead.
As for how you hook up the wireless router to the cable router, you have to unplug the power cord of the cable router for about 15 minutes before hooking the Ethernet jack from it to the wireless router.
Once the 15 minutes have passed, you then can plug the Ethernet cable from the wireless router "WAN" port into an Ethernet port on the cable router and then plug-in the power cord of the cable router.
Once the cable router is finished syncing-up, the cable router should provide an IP address to the wireless router.
If you really have a cable modem instead of a cable router, then you won't have to put the wireless router into gateway mode.
