We have a Maytag Fridge model: MTB1956GE and the top freezer is not keeping food frozen, however the bottom fridge is working fine. In addition small pools of water have been cleaned up from under the fridge off the floor. Also is appears that the fan continues to run inside the freezer section. Is the defrost timer possibly the problem?

I have the same problem. In addition to this, my relay (I think) is buzzing intermittently, every five minutes or so. I'm not sure if that's related, but I'm replacing it today.

Your defrost system consists of the timer, heater and thermostat. Your problem could be any of these. But because your fan doesn't turn off it is more than likely the timer. https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model-number/MTB1956GEW/3048/0166000.html

SOURCE: Frigidaire plht189sska top freezer fridge problem.

If the defrost heating element, defrost timer or evaporater fan weren't working, you'd develop a block of ice on the evaporator. Is the compressor running? If it is, it might have bad valves from the frost buildup scenario. Liquid refrigerant could have gotten to the suction valves. The sealed system should have a five year warranty. Might be time to call a pro

My freezer is working fine but by refrigerator is not working. how can that be with a maytag side by side?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

I don't know what he was doing with the putty unless he was stopping up the vent which won't work because you have to have the air circulation for the fridge section to work. The fridge temp control may be the problem.

Maytag Fridge (Model # MZD2766GEW) not cooling

Check to see if you have frost on the back panel of your freezer in your fridge. If you do your coil is frozen over and you'll have to defrost your freezer. I just did mine cause mine wasn't cooling properly on my fridge side.

Freezer works fine but the fridge won't get cold

It sounds like cold air from the freezer isn't making it to the fridge compartment. This can be cause by a several things. The damper that lets air into the fresh food side is stuck in "closed" position, the temp sensor (t-stat) isn't working properly, the evaporator fan (in the freezer comp above the coils) isn't working to blow air up to the fresh food section. In some situations, the defrost cycle for the freezer section isn't working and the coils have frozen into a block of ice and air can't flow over them properly so you get not cold air to the fresh food section but the freezer still stays cold due to the block of ice.
