Why does my split ac unit leak inside the house?

This happens when the drain pipe is too high, or kinked. The pipe must be lower then the drain pan in order for the water to drain. This is a common problem.

Water leaking from ice maker line

Is the fill tube (on the inside of the freezer) full of ice? If so, you need a new water valve and the tube in the back should just push inside of the rubber tube on the back of the unit

Why does the air conditioner leak water from behind the unit. My air conditioner is placed in a wall and the back end of the conditioning unit sticks out inside the garage. I have ventilation by...

It is normal for an air conditioner to leak water out the back. This water is actually the humidity being taken out of your house. Being vented out in to the garage is always an issue with condensate water. I have seen some people take a funnel and run a hose outside the garage somewhere. Keep the vent closed. It will be harder to cool the house with the vent open because it lets outside air in to the house.

Leaking from inside unit

What is leaking? If it is water, you need to find the drain pipe leading from the inside unit to the outside of the house, and open up the obstruction in it. You could push a wire up through it, or send some compressed air up it. The drain pipe is probably near the ground next to the foundation or in the ceiling of an outside porch.
If this is a window unit leaking water you need to clean the obstruction out of the drain pipe or hole on the outside of the window, probably at the bottom outside rear of the unit.
I wasn't sure from your question if it is leaking water, or leaking refrigerant gas. If it's the gas you probably need to call an A/C repair service.
good luck,

Water leaks from unit often

mcdevito75 Here, all A/C units leak water, if your unit is a window unit you"ll have to re-tilt the unit so that it is leaning more toward outside the window and not toward the inside. Contact an A/C shop in your area they come to the house.

Water leaking inside house

Your problem is there is debris inside of the casing blocking the drain hole in the back of the unit.. Go outside and look under the unit and you will see several holes throughout. These holes allow the condensation to drain out from the bottom of the unit. The best way to clean the unit is to remove the unit from the sleeve take the unit outside and you can wash out the system with a water house as long as you make sure that you don't wet any of the fan motors. The metal thing you refer to is the evaporator coil. If you go to the home improvement store you can purchase a can of coil cleaner. This cleaner is sprayed into the coil at which time it foams up like shaving cream. Let it sit on the coils as directed on the can. Once the time has elapsed rinse the coils well remembering not to get any electrical parts wet (I suggest purchasing a pump up garden sprayer for this because it is easy to control where the water will go) After this is done let the unit sit until the water has disappated then reinstall into its sleeve. The dust by the fan can be removed with a brush and a vacuum (wet Vac). Good luck on repairs

My sister was stumped because her window unit a/c keeps leaking water inside her house. She even had her husband drill a small hole in the housing of the a/c, so that it would drain excess water more...

If you remove the lower casing of the unit, you will find that it was design in such a way the water followed a certain track. Your problem should be fixed if you align that track with the opening to coils so water should drain in the proper track.
