If its network capable, it should allow you to update firmware. Make sure you have network access. Under tools or settings you should be able to find a firmware update selection. May just say update. Select and start the update. I have an LG blueray player. It was easy to find, but took almost an hour to update the FW

How do i connect and update firmware

Normally on any DVD or Blueray player that has a network (RJ45) connector on it you simply need to plug in a network cable that is attached to your router. Then in the menu's there should be a system menu or update menu that you select and then the option for firmware or system update should be visible. You do not state model so I cannot be more specific.

Just stopped screen froze

You can try a firmware upgrade. you can get the firmware from the manufacturer websight

If your high-def disc player has an Ethernet port, connecting it directly to the Internet is the most streamlined way to check for and install updates-though this requires that you connect an Ethernet cable from your Internet connection to your high-def movie player, which may prove difficult depending on your setup. Since every player is different, refer to your owners' manual for instructions on how to connect your player to the internet and how to update the firmware. With some players, you may have to power cycle the player after changing network settings before you can download firmware.

Will not play new blu-rays

You might need a firmware update on the player. just connect it to a network router with an ethernet cable. then there should be an option in your dvd player menu for updates.

Samsung DVD player/recorder

I have seen it as a heat issue and a firmware issue. Depnding on the age, Samsung might update the firmware to correct this problem. Can also occur with cheapo media.
