Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera Logo

My canon powershot s3 IS is taking really dark pictures. The only decent pictures I can take with it are outside in sunlight. Pics indoors come out dark and grainy. I flip up the flash, but most of the time the flash doesn't go off, like there is enough light. And then when it does go off, the picture is way too bright. Help please!!

This is not an answer. The S3 normally does not produce dark pictures, and I have seen this issue before. It has to do with a setting somewhere on that camera that needs to be adjusted. I wish I knew what that setting was/is as my wife's camera has recently started doing this ...

SOURCE: Grainy pics Canon Powershot S3 IS

For most cameras, that's normal. There are a few high-end DSLR cameras that do well in low light but you pay a premium price for them.

Pictures taken outside in sunlight are white while indoor OK

Automatic settings are stuck probably due to moisture. Too expensive to fix, get another camera. Try ebay. Price start at $15 to $395 refurbished - new. And free shipping. Repairs start at $50-75 just to take a look inside.

When I take pics indoors with flash-the pics are dark. NO PROBLEM outdoors in sunlight. Batteries are fresh, no otherproblems with camera

Turn on your Flash light (push lightening with arrow symbol) when capturing indoors, this should solve the problem.

Black screen for Shooting Canon S3 IS

I have a similar problem with my Canon S3 IS. Dark/black LCD in Shooting mode. However, I can view my existing photos in Display mode. I was about to spend money to get a Panasonic TZ5. Somehow I bumped into a solution post for S2 IS. Here is the link:

I tried their solutions twice and it WORKS. My S3 is working fine now.
