I have a Maytag MAV-17, MAV9600EWW, for about three years now. The timer started by not going thru its spin cycle. It would make its timing noise and the timer runs but NO spinning. Now it won't agitate or spin (it still makes its timing noise and the timer runs). It now only works on the delicate cycle.

Does it not spin just in the final cycle or not at all during the wash cycle? Also, does the wash cycle agitate normal?

This sounds like collapsed/broken drum bearings. Check for movement between inner and outer drum. Also rotating the drum by hand will be hard (or immpossible), and noisy. It could be the motor and belt, but most times it is bearings.

I assume the machine is not displaying and error code to the LED Display?

I would download the Service Manual and go to page 14 and perform the Quick Spin Test in Service Mode.

Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”
The Quick Spin Test will spin the wash basket up thru all RPM ranges starting at 90 RPM .15 =150 RPM, .35 = 350 RPM all the way up to .85 for 850 RPM. Report back on the results of the Quick Spin Test and we will go from there.

You can get out of Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or press the off button on the console.

Honestly get a new washer if you got 7 years out of an mav your ahead of the game worst machine maytag ever made, you need a timer but i wouldnt invest the time or money on an MAV

Could be dirty bearings. As long as it is still spinning, it is nothing to worry about. If it suddenly stops one day, it is probably frozen bearings or the brushes in the motor.

sounds like a transmisson problem expensive to fix

1) Make sure valve is open all the way 2) some machines have a screen inside of the hose hook up which could be clogged. 3) last check to see if it is the hot or cold by switch your selector switch on your machine to hot then cold. If one of these positions eliminate the noise then the valve in the machine is bad.

hi thanks for the question with any washer if you use a hi sud zing detergent it really slows down the spin cycle check this just fill & drain 2or 3 times use some veniger try this thanks the appliance doc

Try running the machine in another cycle the very next time you use it. I'm trying to determine if this is machine fault something else.

If you just used the machine wait for about 1/2 hour before starting it again.

this is my experience repairing the maytag washer Atlantis mav series 9750 aww, I had to replace the spin bearing since it was making a jet engine noise when it was spinning out the water. its not an easy job for my 1st time taking this machine apart, you literally take it all apart to get to this bearing, but now I can show how to do it with pictures making it easier for you to do it. even if you have to replace something other than the spin bearing, this how to tutorial will show you how to get to most of the parts in this machine
