I put a tea towel over the vent surface, also a piece of bubble wrap does the trick if used as insulation, and both can be removed quickly to use the surface.

I used my grill for the first time, & the downdraft didn't work we'll, the house filled with smoke & eventually the downdraft shut off and I had to finish cooking in a pan. My Jenn-Air is...

The downdraft is electric so there must be something malfunctioning with it. It is a high volume downdraft fan that is to be vented to the outside. Could it be that something has clogged the vent hole up, not allowing the fan to evacuate the smoke?

While I am not a big fan of Jenn-Air, their fans are usually high quality if they are installed correctly, with the proper vent lines.

The Grill side on my electric cooktop doesnt seem heat up enough

I had the same problem with the 45" Jenn Air downdraft cook top. The installation of the ductwork from the stove to the outside of the house was not properly installed. The stove is appr 18' from an outside wall and the flow of air was hampered by
too great a bend in the ductwork at the point below the stove on the underside of the house and the pipe going to the outside wall. I believe that was corrected with more curve in the vent work, making for a smoother flow of air. Make sense?

My new home already has a hood vent for the range. I have a gas Jenn air downdraft range. I prefer to use the hood vent as the downdraft is not very efficient. Do I have to connect the blower on my range...

The poupose of either is to eliminate any smoke created by the range or grille and move as much of the cooking odors to the outside. I wouldn't use both at the same time, but if the hood is vented to the outside, it would be just fine to use only the hood. Aregular cleaning will be necesssary. The downdraft has limits as to the distance it will efficiently exhaust air. Flex hose should not be used. And excessive bends or vent length, cuts into the efficiency.

We have new house and have cold air coming from Jenn-air vent. What can be done to stop this? We had a Jenn-air in our previous home and did not have this trouble

Most stove vents have a diverter plate which prevents air from coming in. When the fan is turned on, this diverter is opened by the air flow and allows the air to flow through. It sounds like this plate is either stuck or was not installed when the ventilation duct was installed.

Cold air from outside enters the kitchen through the down draft vent.

its would be best to install a damper
whether auto matic
or manuely operated
this is a common problem for the down draft
ive seen some people install things similar
to dryer vent louvers,
but check you exhaust area and still if you can block direct draft
but dont block it so that it cannot exhaust properly

What is a bottom vented cooktop

There is a fan that sucks DOWN like a Jenn-Air cook top. There is no hood usually over such a stove. Usually the suction for the vent is between the burners. I think the air can be exhausted through a filter back into the room or to the out of doors.

The salesman didnt explain this to you???

I hpe this answers your question

Cold air draft

the only way is to block off/check the flapper., if your not going to use for the winter you can disconnect the vent from under the cabinet temporaily and close off there till you can gain access to check outside grill

Jenn-Air electric stove top - burners/fan won't come on

you may have lost a leg of your 240V service. make sure you have 240 to the appliance and then start chasing down where you lost it. there is no onboard trip or reset on this unit
