HI, I was wondering if there is way to adjust the horizontal position on the screen of Sony KP-57WV600. By adjusting I mean a way to shrink the displayed picture horizontally or vertically. To give you an example if you are watching CNN and there is a life feed at the bottom of the screen I see it half way ! It seems that the picture has stretched ! Thank you !

Hi. It seems that the g2 voltage of the picture tube is too high, resulting in a white screen, often with white horizontal lines. The g2 (= second grid) voltage is derived from the flyback high voltage. The voltage divider is mostly integrated in the flyback trafo housing.(including the adjustment knobs). A failure in this divider may lead to this defect. The static you hear may come from sparking in the divider. The flyback trafo is soldered onto the main printed cirrcuit board. Sometimes, one of the pins sits loose in the soldering pads.
Turn on the set and observe for any sparking around the entire flyback circuitry, and, or the flyback trafo itself
The screen turns black after a while, as a too high beamcurrent is detected. The set disables the flyback. Stand-by blinks meaning that there is a fault condition.
Be carefull with the high voltages. The flyback voltage is very high (20-30 Kilovolts !) and may be lethal !!

I keep having to adjust the convergence for blue. Flash focus doesn't do much so I have to laboriously go through and adjust all the crosses for the blue - it usually sinks low and to the right. My...

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some images of convergence problems.

I have blue arched lines on my sony kp 57wv600 is there a fix for this

Those are retrace lines, the screen controls which are a technical control located under the front gray panel of your tv needs adjusted. This also could be an indication of a bigger problem, most common would be the focus block failing. it could also be of the picture tubes failing but this is not as common or possibly the crt driver ic's. There are specific diagnositc steps to preform to isolate the potental failure. this could lead to the tv going very bright then shutting down.
The first thing a tech is going to do is to adjust the screens and leave, somtimes this is enough, but sometimes it is not. if you want to try and adjust the screen i have an instruction set below, but i must warn you that there are high voltages present when attempting this adjustment and can be dangerous if you are un familure with tv repair.

Turn your color all the way down and the brightness in the middle, then find the focus block, it will be a block with 6 controls one row will say screen the other will say focus near the picture tubes, adjust the screen controls(one control for each color) until the picture has a good black and white look to it, then turn your color up and it should look fine. This is how i balance out the picture. But there is another method that allot of techs use, the other method is to adjust the brightness up until you see what is called retrace lines it is a jagged line going down the screen, once you see these lines back the adjustment down just until they disappear. Do this for all three colors. This method works but on an older set can throw the white balance off because of tube wear.

Cleaning the screen cover on my sony big screen

Hi,
To clean its front screen, you should not open front cover as its complicated procedure. just take off its back cover as its shown in picture and use air-blower to clean dust. Then use soft cotton cloth to clean its screen from internal and 3 bulbs / lenses (CRTs) and job is done.
Need further help, let me know.
Bye.

A "Gray Scale" adjustment may solve you problem. If one of the picture tubes is set too high it will cause these RETRACE lines. Then too a weak picture tube might cause this. If the horizontal lines are one color: red, green,or blue then whichever color that is shown would tell you which tube is set too high. Your set has 3 screen controls that control the brightness of each tube. One may need to be turned down a little. Stargazer
