My TV signal source is a cable/satellite digital box. The setup screen correctly takes me as far as "Select correct input source for set top box." At this point - instead of leaving the signal selection menu - I get the "Please run channel scan" prompt. There seems to be no way of getting past this prompt. What's wrong?

I would suggest using dedicated input button on remote, not the menu on the tv. If you can skip setup screen that would be best. I have just looked at the manual for that tv, it tells you all you need to know, depending upon which input you used for your box. As I stated use the direct input button on the remote if you have it.

SOURCE: HDTV Sharp- Input select to watch Cable tv

On the sharp remote you will find an input button. You depress the input button and a menu will appear and highlight the input you are presently on. Hit the input button again to select the next input. If you wait to long to depress the input button it will not work and you have to begin again. This unit will only hightlight inputs have a component hooked to that input.

Sgnal not found

Lila, Signal not found, check all your connections to your cable box, satellite box or Arial, which ever you are using. Make sure cable connections are good and not damaged. On some TV's the setup manual tells you to do a search of all available channels before you can view. TV has to be set to the correct source or input. Try changing the source or input to AV, TV, Digital TV or DTV to see if this is the problem. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

Televison station won't scan

If you are receiving a "No Signal" error message, verify that:
  1. All of the cables physically connected to the TV and the input device are secure.
  2. The input device is turned on.
Your TV needs to scan for channels before it can show programming from an antenna, from cable TV when the cable comes directly from the wall (no cable box), or from a cable or satellite box connected to the TV with a coaxial (RF) cable. Do not scan for channels if you have a cable or satellite box connected using AV (Composite), Component, or HDMI cables. The box selects the channel, not the tuner inside your television. If you are not using the "TV" input, press the INPUT button on your remote until the correct input mode is selected.
To perform a channel scan using the coaxial input:
  1. Press the INPUT button on your remote to view your current input source. The TV (coaxial cable) input must be selected. This may appear as "TV," "ANT," or the channel and call letters of a station.
  2. If the TV input is not selected, press INPUT until the TV input mode is selected.
  3. Open the on-screen menu and select TV or Tuner option. (This varies by model.)
  4. Highlight Tuner Mode and select the correct option:
    • Antenna-over-the air signals from an antenna
    • Cable-direct from the wall cable TV, or a cable or satellite box connected to the TV with coaxial cable
  5. Select Auto Search or Auto Channel Scan. (This varies by model.)
  6. When the search reaches 100% complete, exit to the menu.
  7. Check the available channels:
    • Antenna or direct-from-wall cable-Press the Channel Up and Channel Down buttons on your VIZIO TV remote to view the available channels.
    • Cable or satellite box- Will return only one channel. Use the cable or satellite remote's Channel Up and Channel Down buttons.
If this does not resolve the issue, power cycle the TV and then re-run the channel scan:
  1. Turn off the TV.
  2. Unplug the TV from the electrical outlet.
  3. While the TV is unplugged from the wall, press and hold the Power button on the TV for 30 seconds.
  4. Release the power button.
  5. Plug the TV back into the electrical outlet.
  6. Turn on the TV.
Note: There is also an option to reset the TV to the factory default settings. This option is in either the SETUP or SYSTEM section of the on-screen menu. The option may be "Reset all settings", "System Reset," or "Reset & Admin." Consult your TV's user manual for the location and steps for resetting your model.
  1. Remove the coaxial cable from the DTV/TV connector on the back of your television and perform a channel scan to clear the existing channels. See the procedure above. This should not find any channels.
  2. Re-attach the coaxial cable to the DTV/TV connector and perform a new channel scan.
This video shows troubleshooting steps to use when a "No signal" message appears.

I don't have signal on my tv and there are no program's to watch as they are all blank. Is just a brand new tv I bought like 2 days ago

What make and model of TV do you have? What is your signal source (OTA (indoor or outdoor antenna), cable, satellite)? How is the TV connected to the source?

The model is important since some "TVs" are actually only monitors and do not have tuners. Then you need to connect to a set top box to watch anything.

Assuming the TV has an ATSC (digital) tuner for OTA, check that your antenna is pointed in the correct direction for the stations in your area. Use antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to identify the direction. Antennaweb assumes an external antenna and gives a very conservative list of stations. TVfool tells you the type of antenna needed to get any station (assuming no trees or tall buildings that might block the signal). Depending on your TV, you will need to enter the menu in order to correctly set the incoming signal type and scan for channels. Digital signals are either enough for the tuner to interpret or not available. If your signal is split between several TVs you may need an amplifier to get enough signal. Sometimes, the amplifier may fail and filter out all stations in certain frequencies. (Older TVs often only had a NTSC tuner; there are very few NTSC stations still broadcasting. They are low-power and thus you may not be able to watch them if they are far away.)

If you have cable without a box, which type of cable signal is coming in? Digital cable is QAM and not all TVs have a clearQAM tuner (that reads the unencrypted signal).

If you are using a set top box, make sure to set the TV to the correct input (HDMI, component video, composite video, coax and the correct number if there are multiple inputs). Make sure that the box is also on. If the set top box requires the TV to be set to a specific channel (3,4,60), make sure to go to that channel.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(For the US, the digital OTA tuner is ATSC and QAM for cable. In other countries, different signal formats are used.)

I need the maual for this rca tv L37wd22yx6 tv just keeps saying unusable signal and i need the maual

What is the signal source for the TV? Make sure that you are on the correct input. Use the Input button on the remote. If you do not have the original remote, you need one that matches that function. (Often a Source or Input button is not available on the low end remotes.) Check that you have the signal set to Antenna or Cable if you are using the coaxial connection and the source is TV. (Menu > Setup > Channel Setup > Signal Type)

If your source is a computer, use the VGA port not the HDMI port. Computers send a different type of video signal than video set top boxes. The L37WD22 can't interpret the PC signal on the HDMI input.

For a set top box on the HDMI port, the unusable signal message indicates a communication issue. Try pressing the Info button on the remote. If you see an additional message of Acquiring Channel, then the set top box isn't responding to the remote. Check that the device is on and set up correctly to communicate with the TV. (For example, if your set top box offers progressive scan, try turning of that feature with the control for the box.)

The L37WD22 was built by TTE for the RCA label. The manual is available on the TTE support page.

The direct link to the User's Manual in English is http://support.ttetech.com/RCATV/Assets/pdfs/L37WD22_16788070_IB_e-07.pdf .

I hope this helps.

How do I get the closed caption to turn off? It's been on for weeks, all the time. I've tried to turn it off from the remote: I press "menu", scroll down to "features" , go to...

What is the Source of the video? The captions menu item that you found will only enable/disable the closed captions from select sources, including your TV antenna or RF cable. For other sources (particularly HDMI), you need to disable the captions using the options for that source.

On my IPTV (fiber-optic TV) box, that requires entering the setup menu with a passcode from my provider. Next I go to the Hardware menu and find the captions option under the Audio sub-menu. On one satellite setup, I found that a secondary set-top box could only get the closed captions if they were enabled on the primary set-top box. Thus disabling the captions required accessing the set-top box's menu from the correct TV.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with your TV source (make and model), if you'd like help finding the CC option menu for that device.

Cindy Wells
(With a slightly different IPTV set-top box, the included remote had a CC button that worked without needing the passcode. The current one doesn't.)

Just fixed this myself - made my head hurt to figure out. 1. Switch to a setting (say DVD). 2. Watch the AVR screen as it switches. You'll see the audio and video settings. For example, Audio = DVD, Video = DVD (Mine showed Audio = DVD, Video = DBS even though is was set correctly using the SETUP for audio and video)3. Under the round control knob on the left, push the (tiny) Video Select button. 4. Turn control know to choose the correct video source
Your system should work right. Mine did.

Im trying to connect my unit to my tv to record shows and i having trouble doing so please help i am hooking it up wrong

For OTA or CATV signals, you need to daisy chain the coax from the source (antenna for OTA) to the coax input on DVD recorder and then the coax out to the coax input of the TV. If you have a set-top cable box with an incoming CATV signal, it should be connected between the DVD recorder and the TV.

The unit can tune in and record 480i (SD) ATSC (OTA digital), NTSC (OTA analog), analog CATV and digital CATV channels.

A satellite receiver or a non-CATV cable box should get the incoming signal first and then have their composite video output (A/V) connected to the DVD recorder composite video input and then their coax (RF) output (if present) gets connected to the TV. For these, you would record from the IN1 or IN2 (press Select Input) instead of selecting a channel. Then connect the composite video out on the recorder to the TV's composite video in.

Digital signals are either enough to tune in or give no signal. So check that your antenna is correctly oriented for OTA.

Separately, you can connect the video signal when playing DVDs via composite (good signal) out and component out (better signal) out to the TV's matching input. For the component video, the sound is carried on a separate cable. Then set the TV to the input source.

In the case of wanting to watch a VHS tape while taping to a DVD, do not use the Component video source, set the TV to Input 1 (composite).

I hope this helps.

I have a 19" phillips lcd tv and when i turn the tv on the phillips screen comes up but when it is going the show the channel it shut off by itself how can i fix this problem?

Hello. I may be able to assist you. If you are using a direct cable connection from the wall outlet;
  • Check the incoming cable or antenna signal connection to ensure that it is properly secured to the TV's antenna input.
  • If the connection is good, perform the automatic installation again to search for all available channels.
If you are using a coaxial connection from the Cable or Satellite box to the TV;
  • Set the TV to the channel specified by the service provider.
  • Change the channels at the Cable or Satellite box to view the program.
If you are using a video connection (CVBS, S-Video, YPbPr, HDMI) from the source (DVD, Cable or Satellite box) to the TV;
  • You do not need to perform automatic installation to search for the channels.
  • Press the 'SOURCE' 071218044349_22024.gif button on the remote control repeatedly to select the correct input source.
If you are using an HDMI connection from the source (DVD, Cable or Satellite box) to the TV;
  1. Reset the TV and source by unplugging it from the power outlet for 30 seconds.
  2. Turn on the TV and press the play button on your source device. If the source is HDMI CEC compliant, the TV will automatically switch to the HDMI input.
  3. If your source is not HDMI CEC compliant, turn on the TV and switch to the HDMI input.
  4. Turn on your source.
If you are sure you have selected the correct input or channel but still have no picture or sound;
  • Try resetting the TV by unplugging it from the power outlet for 30 seconds.
  • Press the 'SOURCE' 071218044349_22024.gif button to select the correct input source.
  • Check the connection cables.
  • Try the connected source with another TV.
  • Connect a different source on the same connection of your TV.
