You need display repair ($39.95) and a waveguide cover (assuming your model is DMT2420-something, the cover's part number is 66345, which you can order from the Pros here.

The idiots at Martin's Appliance in Ephrata came out to repair, they told me that the microwave was drawing too much power. (Incidentally, it was out of warranty their extended warranty by two months). I turned off the breaker and suprisingly, learned to live without my microwave. (Kids use the better one in our lower level). After a year and a half of wrestling with a decision regarding its replacement, I decided to flip the breaker. Lo and behold the display reset itself. It finally went blank again, but the microwave works if you can visualize the numbers. Thanks for your tip.

Scott, if everything has gone blank on your microwave and you have no lights when you open the door, it may be the main fuse or even a tripped circuit breaker. Plug something else into the outlet to make sure that the circuit breaker is not tripped. If that is okay, un-plug your microwave and take out the screws that hold the outside cover onto the microwave and then remove the cover. Look for where the power cord goes into the unit and follow the black wire from the cord. It should go to either a small circuit board with the fuse located on it, or it may go to an in-line fuse holder. If you have access to a multi-meter, you can set it for continuity and check your fuse after you remove it from it's holder. If it is bad it will not show continuity. Replace it with the same amperage fuse that you take out. It will be stamped on one end of the fuse and will usually be either 15 amps or 20 amps. Hope this helps!

Clock frequently goes blank and needs to be reset

You have a faulty display module due to one or more components leaking. Some models have a seperate display module that can replaced without the complete board having to be replaced. If not, the board needs to be replaced. You need to ask your spares suppliers that have info. on that model.

Roper microwave caught a paper towel on fire.

Why is this even a question?

Of course a paper towel can get hot enough to catch fire in a microwave. In addition, anything not specifically identified as microwave safe can melt, deform, crack, chip, spark, catch fire, explode, etc...
This is not a microwave problem.
