This intermittent problem is very difficult to rectify. Just contact the authorised service center for Hitachi at your town. The work is really a skilled one, that a user cannot do it with ease.
Please cycle the unit through the various inputs to make sure it is on one with something hooked up to it.
Either that or a defective cable someplace--double check the hookup and start with just a DVD or something connected to a single input to see for yourself if any input is working.
The inputs are of course different from the cable fitting and it is possible for the tuner in the set not to work but the rear audio/video inputs to work.
I have a toshiba 50hm67 tv and with mine the blue light would come on and I would hear sound first and then the picture would finally come on... this happend for about a month.... next the yellow and blue light would come on but the pic still wouldn't come on until it clicked off and on by itself for about 10 min this went on for about a week. All of a sudden last night the red lights by the power light started blinking. No tv now and when the tv shut off it said lamp not working.
Not sure what causes it but it can be fixxed by your local repair guy, I just had mine fixxed for under a hundred bucks, he takes the back off and with a tiny screw driver adjust a few screws to near brand new perfect picture.. and it has been good ever since
Did you have storms go through your area and lightning strikes or power surges? We did a few weeks ago and I have very raspy sound but perfect picture...
My z520i has the exact same problem. If your phones warranty is still in place you should be able to fix it free of charge. if not, try pushing down on the hinge with force but not too much or you'll break the screen off (I;ve seen that happen before).
