When i switch on my y510 laptop (windows 7) black screen appears which slowly turm to white and then right half of screen turns black and white, while the left half remains plane white. Fan is running but the screen remains in the white and black condition. I want to know what can be the problem before i go to service center and cost of repair if possible as it is out of warranty. Please help.

did you try to connect the laptop to external LCD?

Run the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents,music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

when did you install windows 7? Windows 7 might be to strong for your laptop or you might have to reinstall windows 7.

MS tech support is JUNK....

Solution
Get an external monitor and fix that to the monitor port (watch this video)

on the back or on side of the notebook serial port
if display on monitor is ok then there is some issue with you laptop display
if hardware is the issue
you need to aproach a tech shop to fix the issue

OS upgrades dont spoil hardwares....

For you to enable the Webcam for your Lenovo system you need to press FN + F5 a radio button will appear on the screen indicationg that the bluetooth is on.. FN + F5 is also used to turn on the wireless switch

Yeah, I have this exact same problem, except my mom slammed my laptop shut in frustration around half an hour ago, so that's why it's like this. The right half of my screen is black with two colorful stripes (mostly white), but the left half is visible. I've researched a bit and found out that this is because the LCD in your monitor has burnt out, and since you don't have a monitor to attach, the only thing you can do is to go to where you bought the laptop and either get it fixed for free or return it for a brand new one (if your warranty still stands). If not, you might as well get a new laptop. I think my warranty has expired, so I'll get a new laptop, hopefully.

The issue appears to be cosmetic if the system boots to WIndows and there are no display issues using the system. Some systems I've seen have a bit of video distortion between the BIOS splash screen and the desktop. A couple things may change that. Update the system BIOS and the video driver to the most current available

got this from a friend: Apparently some series of Acer notebook came with BAD_EDID laptop display. The only thing wrong is the checksum which is 9D and should be 1D. Powerstrip 3.76 (registered version) managed automatically to correct EDID.

There is no problem with drivers from 101.x series, but with any newer driver max. resolution is 1024x768 and the picture is in left upper corner of the screen with black bar on the right and smudged taskbar to the bottom of the screen. After installing and restarting resolution is set to 800x600 what results in white screen whit thick black bar slowly appearing on the screen.
