First thing u really need to do is to see if ur chipset is compatible to run windows 7
to do this go to Microsoft.com and download the windows 7 compatibility tool and run it on ur computer and it will tell u if u can use windows 7 now if u havent bought a windows 7 disc then u can get it from their site and pay and download it.
and if u do have a disc and u r compatible to run win 7 then just put the disc in ur cd drive and follow directions that it gives there will be a screen that asks u if u want to delete previous operating system and reformat just click yes and away u go
You don't "reformat" to a new operating system. You "install" it, and you have two choices. The first is an upgrade, which installs the new version without deleting any of your personal data or installed applications. The second choice is a full install, where your hard drive is reformatted and the new operating system is installed from scratch.
To do either of these installations you'll need to buy a copy of the new Windows version. The upgrade version costs less than the full version. Upgrading sometimes doesn't go smoothly, so full installation is preferable if you have all your stuff backed up. In both cases, the process is automatic. You just put the installation DVD (Windows 7 only comes on DVD) into your drive and start up the computer. The installation runs from the disc. All you need to do along the way is provide any information you're asked for along the way.
Be aware that if your computer is older, the hardware may not be compatible with Windows 7. Before investing in a copy, you should use this program from Microsoft to check your computer and make sure W7 will work.
Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!
To upgrade to windows 7 you have to download the windows 7 disk ..in image file format ..and either run it from windows xp directly using daemon tools or another virtual disk drive...or ..burn it on a disk using iso burner ...and make a boot-able disk ..and after that insert it in the computer ..save all files in other partition ...and boot from the disk ..by using the boot sector menu ..(f8 on start ) ..or go to bios and set the boot priority to boot from cd first ..save with F10 and restart with the disk inside..
It will ask you to press any key to start from disk ..
To get a windows 7 image file ..you can download it from here ..using utorrent program or another torrent client ..like bittorent or lime ..
Here is the file
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6067689/Windows_7_Starter_%2832_Bit%29_x86_%28December_2010%29
and here is the torrent program to download with ..
http://www.utorrent.com/downloads
Install this program after that go to the site with the file ...and press on the link named download this torrent ..and confirm opening with u torrent ..
You will be noticed when the program is downloaded ..and you will find it in My documents /downloads..
make sure you have enough space in C drive ..cause it is a large file ...(3 G ) needed for download only ..
To install windows & you need at least 14 G space in drive C ..and to have at least 1G ram memory ...otherwise will not work ..
When you have the image file ...use either those ISO burner that came with the file ...in the second folder...and burn it to a DVD ..and use it from there ..or open it with daemon tools ..(which is a virtual disk )
The installation is simple and predictable ...if you boot from the disk you will have the possibility to format the C drive before loading the file ...if not ..you have to upgrade..and it will save your windows xp ..in a folder called windows old..(you can delete it after installation ) ..
The drivers for the on-board devices will be loaded automatically ...for the others you will have to download for each from the manufacturer's support site
