Our MayTag MSD2758DR side by side water dispenser has a light on it. It NEVER came on unless you pressed the button for the light to come on or you were getting water.
NOW, it is on some what dim... and if you press Light button it gets brighter only. If you press the light button, it doesn't go off, it only goes back to being dim. If you open the freeser door, the light goes out completely. The when you close it, it comes back on, ut dim light.
What is going on?
Some places I have read said its supposed to do that... other places say it does not.
We bought the unit in the year 2000. We change the filter regularly. There is no leaks, the water, ice and crushed ice buttons ALL work fine. Just that light is on dim now and it has us thinking its some kind of warning.

Please post the model number so I can pull up a schematic. Some models have a "night light" mode that may have been activated so check the owners manual, other than that the control board could be bad, providing a slight "leakage" of power to the lamp (depending on the type of lamp control circuit).

hi there
you should let an electrician have a look at that because the lights that dim only means that there is a grounded wiring somewhere inside your fridge. what you can do is just look for an open wire. thats it. apparently, you could d this yourself, but be careful. hope this helps
fixya!
SOURCE: Ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice
THE WAY A DISPENSER CHANGES FROM CUBES TO CRUSHED ICE IS BY RAISING AN ARM THAT RUNS ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE ICE BIN. IF IT SETS FOR A LONG TIME, IT CAN GET A BUILUP OF FROST OR ICE THAT KEEPS IT FROM MOVING. PULL THE ICE BIN OUT AND TRY TWISTING THE END OF THE ARM MANUALLY. IT SHOULD OPEN A DOOR AT THE FRONT OF THE BIN THAT WOULD ALLOW THE ICE TO BYPASS THE CUTTER ASSEMBLY.
ALSO,WITH THE ICE BIN REMOVED, PUSH THE DOOR SWITCH BUTTON CLOSED BUT KEEP THE FREEZER DOOR OPEN. WHERE THAT ARM GOES IN THROUGH THE BACK WALL, CHECK FOR MOVEMENT OF A ROD UPWARD WHEN YOU CALL FOR CUBED ICE. IF YOU HEAR A LOUD HUM BUT THE ROD DOESN'T MOVE, YOU MAY NEED TO REPLACE THE SOLENOID ASSEMBLY IN THAT MODULE.

My freezer did the same thing after we had removed the ice making unit to emoty the ice. In our situation, the bar had not been reinserted into the proper slot and therefore could not toggle between the two choices. Be sure the long metal piece is IN the little box on the back wall of the freezer and you will be enjoying your ice maker again, I hope!

Your problems are the power board for sure. I have the same refrigerator and have read dozens of forums and advise pages looking for answers. If you let the problem countinue your fridge will completely stop cooling and all your food will be trash as has happened to me.
Symptoms: Fan in the back starts to make click or flopping sound as it tries to start up. Ice despenser doesent despense ice. water works sometimes. Eventually you notice your food defrosting partially and then refreezing as the defrost timer stops working which is controlled by the power board. Light dims and pulses when you hold the Ice despencer in. If you remove the light for the dispencer your water will work fine as long as the fan isnt making the clicking noise. Fan will eventually start up and run.

We had an icemaker problem - overnight, the floor in the kitchen was fool of water because it overflew with water. Now the light at the dispenser is till on and neither water nor ice can be dispensed. What to do?
My light dispenser stays on and nothing works, no water and no ice.
We have the same problem- yesterday the water started coming out of the dispenser by itself (no one was even in the kitchen) and now the light is on all the time, the buttons do not work and we have no ice or water coming out)
