Carrier Infinity AC indoor unit in the garage is leaking water on the floor. There is no ice on the coils, The drain is not clogged. There is no water in the coil area. I turned off power to the indoor and outdoor unit and it continues to leak water. I finally shutoff the water supply coming into the house. The leak then stopped. The unit is on a wooden box approx 3 feet above the floor in the garage. The only water seen is on the floor. I open the side of the A/C unit and see no water or ice anywhere.. Could this be an AC system leaking ? OR.. Could I have an unrelated leak under the slab ?? Water heater is also in the garage..

have your HVAC technician check the pressures in your unit...sounds like you may have low pressure. You should NOT be having any ice build up to melt off.

sounds like the unit needs to be elevated and leveled.

Hello, the drain line will be located under the unit near the condenser coil. Sometimes it can get blocked and the condensate will settle toward the front of the unit and leak from the unit. Also, make sure the unit is tilted back in the window about a 1/4 inch aswell.

indicates dirty evaporator fins that are icing up
that will overload the compressor and trip it
the ni oise you hear is the ice breaking up and the splashing is excessive water in the blocked drain that cannot run outside
get in a technician to clean and service the ac

With the limited information, i would suggest pulling the service panel off where you can see what is going on. Try to determine exactly where the water is coming from.Does the drain line to the pump basin have a trap? Is there a secondary drain? Is it trapped or sealed? Is there a clean-out "T" on the primary? Is there a cap on this? If the primary drain line is not clogged, the drain pan in the unit is not clogged, and the primary drain is trapped, and the secondary drain is sealed or trapped, then i would check and see if the water is dripping directly off the coils. If it is then the coils need to be cleaned to regain the surface tension to allow the water to run down them into the condensate tray.

I assume you are talking about the indoor unit. One function of the a/c system is to dehumidify the air. Condensation forms on the cooling coil and runs to the drip pan. There should be a drain line on the drip pan that drains the pan outside. These sometimes become clogged causing the water level in the pan to rise. Try some mild drain cleaner to open the line. the drain pan is either clogged or the unit is not mounted properly. If the drain pan is clogged simply clean it and the problem goes away. In the case of the unit mounting, check the angle of the unit and the drain pan inside, if it tilted to the front even just a little then water would leak. the drain pan should lean toward the drain and away from the front.

The evaporator drain is blocked causing the defrost water to pool, freeze and then leak onto your floor.
Clear out the freezer, then use a hammer to break up the ice on the floor. Now remove the rear panel. You'll see more ice build up. Don't use the hammer on it! (Too close to the coils for comfort) Use a hair dryer to warm up/melt the ice below the coils.
You'll see the drain hole now. Clear the drain by forcing a solution of water and bleach or water and baking soda into it with a basting syringe. If the solution will not flow through, slide a length of ¼ inch flexible tubing into the drain tube to push the clog through to the drain pan. Remove the tubing after clearing the clog.

soundls like the condensate drain is clogged and coil is dirty. look for a plastic pipe inlet where water would flow to.. you may be able to clear it by blowing it out with compressed air. you can also pour bleach into it to address the mold problem. if the coil is icing up it is because it is dirty. to verify this, let the unit run in ac mode for about an hour and check to see if you have air flow from the vents. if you do not, then the cooling coil is covered in ice, thus blocking air flow. you should have a qualified ac person clean the coil and check the refrigerant charge on the unit. one thing to consider, change your ac filter often, at least once a month in hot weather.
