I am having a similar issue. I had a tech out to look at it and he recommended replacing the drum bearing and idler jockey pulley. ($419.95) Ouch. I am going to do this on my own. I ordered the part from paykelfisherparts.net. Part # 479332 Drum Bearing Kit $79.91.
Check here for more info. This was exactly what I found on my machine (DGGX1) http://fisherpaykelparts.net/techhelp/fisher-paykel-top-load-dryers-us-models/731-fisher-paykel-dggx1-top-load-dryer.html
I did not totally trust the repair dude. He was wierd and not very thorough. I can tell the bearing is bad, if there are still noises I will order up the jockey pully thing and see if I can figure that out.
Here is a link to the service manual. (https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B5If-wTgYWH5OGNkY2RmZDEtMWU4OS00MjgwLTg3OWEtMmRlZjY0N2I5MzYy&hl=en)
Good luck
Problem Solved!!! Update to my repair!
I ordered the parts on Sunday, received them today (Tuesday). Spent about 40 minutes following the instructions and completing the repair (if I knew what I was doing it would have taken about 15 minutes). The noise is gone and it is working like a clock. I did not replace the final piece that came with the repair kit (It is the shaft the bearing fits over. I did not have the proper socket to remove the old one, but the old shaft felt smooth and good.
This was super easy. I am anything but mechanical. I do change my own oil and that is about it. Get your allen wrench and phillips screw driver ready and fix you dryer. Save me about $330.
If you remove the top of the dryer(not just the lid) be sure to get the tab on the left side flipped down and into its slot when you replace the top. Otherwise the drum where the clothes are will not open. Instead you get three lights on the control panel lit up indicating a problem.
Best of luck!
Oh yeah, the repair dude was full of it. The jockey pulley is a terrible repair and would have taken lots of time. Lots of dismantling to get to the pulley's according to him and the manual. Would have been the big money maker. Glad I took this on myself. Have no fear!
