The unit turns on and off every 40 sec. or so. I have turned the unit off and on and I get a red light blicking 5 times on and off. this happened about 4 to 6 mo. ago and it is happening again on. Thanks, Bob

Count the number times the red light blinks this is an indication of the error code as to what the probem is, if it blinks 10 times then this is a power supply failure.

3 times standby red light blinking shows that lamp cover has not been placed back properly after lamp replacement.
Make sure lamp cover, (the first thing that you removed to replace lamp in tv) is fixed securely then turn tv On.

it is going in safeguard mode there is some problem in circuit

this happens when the ps3 has overheated-try removing the hard drive and replacing then give the console a hoover out.....if this doesnt work try holding the power button on for 5 sec....if this doesnt work its back to sony im affraid

five blinks on this unit indicates a weak or out crt tube you can try opening the unit and very gently tapping the bottom of the glass part of the tube to see if you can clear some of the carbon build up from the tube only a temporary fix. be very careful not to break the tube

Probably needs a DM board.This is avery common problem and the board may not be available anymore.Sometimes you can repair them by replacing bad capacitors on the DM board.

The camera turns on and there is a green light on the camera and instantly turns red

HI, the power unit is experiencing some difficulties due the an overheating issue. if the light is turning yellow at any time, this will confirm a overheating issue. Now, if the light is simply turning red and, powering off then system with a red blink, this will confirm a power unit failure. you will need to replace the power unit in this case.

Contact your nearest Sony repair shop of, contact Sony manufacture for this repair.

NOTE(If its a simple overheating issue, you can purchase a cooling device to heel this issue)

It is most deffinately a convergence chip issue. The die for no reason. They can be bought online for around $10 dollars and anyone with experience with soldering can replace them pretty easily. I have done it.
