My Maytag MDE9700AYW Neptune Ele Dryer is making a loud scratch/squealing like noise when it is drying with ever revolution that it makes. It sounds almost like something metal is scratching? We have checked the front and back of the drum inside and didn't see anything?

    Could be as simple as a coin rubbing on the drum or as in mine... It was a bad drum roller which had came off its spindle and the drum was scrapping on the shaft. You may need to disassemble and remove the drum to have a better look.

    Mine was a bad roller which called for 35001136 or W10177428 which range from $30-$40.. But after further surfing i found out that Samsung DC97-16782A will work and its much cheaper, $12.00 ea.

    3 year update: I decided to let my dryer run it's full cycle. After a few minutes.. It worked just fine. I'm still using it. '=)

I have the same problem--it is the heating element. Bad news is they don't make the part anymore. The solution from maytag.com is to buy a new one and they will reimburse you 15%...not a very good solution considering how much this one cost and the amount of years it has been used.
If you find a place that sells the heating element please post!
