Volume levels vary for no apparent reason. From normal to quiet and back at what seems to be random time intervals. No jiggling of any wires makes a difference. The speakers are old and I'm wondering if they are just dying. They are the Cambridge SoundWorks Four Point Surround speakers with a sub wolfer that is connected to my computer. No driver problems. Have 2 sound cards and tried them both and when it works its perfect but for some reason the sound level just decreases by 50% for few minutes and then it goes back to working properly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your response. However the same problem exists whether you are watching tv, videos, movies, music, et cetera. The headphones work still.

Changing volume doesn almost nothing

normally, while youre playing you can change the volume by spinning the little wheel at the camera every time to make it louder or more quiet.

Sub kicking out full volume bass for no reason

it's you power from the battery/alternator, it's not supplying enough power to kick it on, if you turn the volume down you'll notice that it'll stay on. You may need to re adjust the settings on your amp or get a bigger alternator, maybe even install a second battery.
