2005 Pontiac Aztek Parking Brake

My parking brake will stop rolling back when it is engaged; however, it still rolls forward. I bought my Aztek with 8000 miles on it and I can't say that I have ever used it, but I need it working to pass inspection. One Mech. changed the pads and he is stumped too. Any ideas? Thank you sooooo much for any advice you can offer.

Probably a few things; the parking brake cables are stretched/rusted/broken, the parking brake shoes are completely used in the rear, or the hardware for the shoes have seized (your car has standard pads for regular braking and parking brake shoes for the parking brake, two separate systems). Most likely, since you said that parking brake hasn't been used, it's probably for the former. Have the parking brake cables replaced and check the parking brake pads as well, they are either worn or seized.

The E-brake just needs adjusted up on the pads or rear shoes. If shoes on the rear instead of pads, it will hold from rolling back but not forward if not getting full pressure from the brake shoes needing adjusted up closer to the drum. It will hold from back roll because of shoe design. More shoe surface on the rear shoe than on the front shoe. That's the way they're built.

You are just going to have to break down and buy some switches I believe. they are known for going out on that model. if you can find someone to test them at the switch to see if it is the switch or the motor that is what you need to do. most likley switches is most of the problem . thanks Jerry holler if you have more.

SOURCE: 1996 Pontiac Grand Am. Front brake issue

If you had a mechanic replace all those parts correctly (no air bubbles), the problem may be a blockage in the break line. What you can try is buy about a half gallon or so of brake fluid and a large disposable bucket or bowl and get a friend to help you.

Remove the brake line from the caliper that is giving you the problem (smoke) and place the line in the bucket. Open the brake fluid resivoir and make sure it is full. Have your friend pump the pedal (with the engine and key OFF) all the way to the floor a few times, refilling the brake fluid as needed. After you have done this until you think all the fluid has been replaced, replace the line to the caliper. You should find a small "nipple" that looks like it should be connected to something, but it may not be. This is the bleeder valve.

With the engine still off, have your friend pump up the brakes until they are stiff and hold pressure on the brake pedal while you loosen this valve to allow any air to escape, then tighten the valve back before repeating the process. Making sure that all the air is out of the lines and caliper may take a lot more brake fluid and you can still use the bucket to prevent making a mess.

Don't forget to dispose of the used brake fluid properly. Most auto mechanics will take in the used fluid (motor oil too) and recycle it for you.

If this doesn't solve your problem, have a mechanic check the master brake cylinder and lines to the brake caliper and replace any lines that may be blocked. You can also have them just replace the lines to that caliper if you don't want to make a mess and get a little dirty! :)

I hope I could help narrow down your problem and help you get it fixed. Good luck and don't forget to rate! Thank you.

it's only supposed to adjust to the point where it works...otherwise it would tighten up from use and stop you dead.

Parking light wont go out and keeps dinging

Reach down and release the parking brake at the same time pull up on the parking brake pedal. Sometimes the pedal gets bumped just enough to engage the switch indicating the brake is engaged.

When I start the car, I can't put the car in shift mode. Unless I am on a slight incline and put my emergency brake on to roll. What is the problem and how much will it cost me to fix?

Can't shift out of park because I've parked on a slight hill and my car has backed up slightly jaming the parking pawl in the automatic transmission after I have shifted into park but before I have set the parking brake. This is a complaint that Ford owners have had for years. Try this proceedure to see if this solves you problem and best of all it's Free. 1st when you park develop the habit of; while still having the foot brake down apply the park brake firmly first and then shift into park and then release the foot brake. Remember it is important to apply park brake with enough force to prevent the vehicle from rolling. What happens is in the rear of an automatic transmission there is a coarse gear that has a lever that engages this larger gear and when you shift into park range this lever goes into one of the spaces in the larger gear and stops the car from rolling. If the car starts to roll it can Jam the lever against the gear and make it difficult to shift out of park. By using the procedure I've outlined it prevents the lever OR Pawl from being jambed into the larger park gear. Try to make this a habit and you shouldn't have anymore problems.

How do you change back spark plugs in 2005 buick rendezous

Most GM FWD's are a pain, but theres a trick. Undo the dogbone that connects the engine to the front frame where the radiator is (some cars/vans have 2, a few have only 1) with a second persons help, push the vehicle forward from the back until it stops (leave the trans in park and the parking break unset) when it stops, lock down the parking brake to keep it from rolling back. Viola, easy access to the plugs. When you're done, put your foot on the brake and then release the parking brake. Slowly let off the brake to avoid having the engine slam back against the firewall, and then reconnect the dogbones. You may need to rock the car a bit to get the bolts back in, but it shouldnt require much.

When i take it from park into reverse it pops really loud

Do you park on a hill, and not use the parking brake?? When folks don't use the parking brake, the car rolls a bit after you put it in park, and take your foot off the brake. Therefore putting pressure on the transmission to keep the car in place. Then when you start up, and throw it in reverse, it will pop, clunk, make an awful sound.

I HAVE A 2001 AZTEK AND WHEN ON AN UPHILL INCLINE STOPPED, YOU MUST KEEP FOOT ON BRAKE OR VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACKWARDS

This is normal, depending on the depth of the hill. This is frequent with standard/manual cars on uphills, they can roll back, but with automatic vehicles they usually have a small amount of throttle, (you'll notice this when putting your vehicle from park into drive with your foot off the break, it'll start slowly moving forward)
Now on the hill, if it's a steep incline your car will move backwards, it all depends on how high your throttle (the car itself) is, and the incline depth of the hill.

The parking brake on my Volvo XC90 does not release when pulling on the release lever, can I release it manually so that I can drive it to the shop for repair?

Not from up top inside the car if it's frozen.

Sounds like it's been engaged quiet tight. So start the vehicle try depressing the release button and lifting up firmly instead of trying to immediately push downward on it to release.

Do that while lightly easing the vehicle in reverse if parked downhill to take pressure of the brake or in drive if parked uphill.

2005 is relatively new and I don't presume the cable has frozen nor snapped in the engaged position.

It's common when the brake has been engaged on a steep incline and drifted forward or the wheels curbed quiet snugly to avert rolling.

Car trouble

It could be that the shifter linkage is not letting the transmission fully engage into park. Or the parking pawl inside the transmission is damaged.
