Hi, My young daughter held the tray on my new cd5001 player as it was opening. The tray now opens and closes continually while the unit is turned on. It will not play discs and the words open & close come up on the screen as it is opening & closing. The tray still seems very smooth in operation. Many Thanks, Colin

While your daughter was "holding" the tray did you hear any "popping" type noise?
This is a typical sympton when the gears have skipped a few teeth!
Your best bet(IF your a "handy" person) would be to take the unit apart to get to the CD drive, and CAREFULLY push/pull on the tray to manually "open/close" it, and watch the tray in correlation to the "eye" mechanism, to see if it is aligning with the "hole" in the tray correctly!
Good luck!

Cd tray won't stay open--when you press the "open" button, it opens but then closes again immediately.

It has a misaligned loading mechanism. I have dealt with this kind of problem before. What is happening is that before the tray have a chance to open all the way it gets stuck and gets pulled back in.

Hi, the dvd on my recorder stayes ejected? It will close but then will eject straight away? What can I do? Cheers.

Hello,

The fault is not from the disc, it is from the player.

The disc tray is actually malfunctioning. Which is as a result of a fault on the mechanism that is controlling the opening and closing of the disc tray.

Another fault might be that the button that controls the disc tray might be stuck.

test if it is the button.
  1. Unplug the player from the power source,
  2. plug it back,
  3. turn it on,
if it opens without you pressing the open button, then the fault is from the button.

check it for any irregularity.

  1. get the appropriate screwdriver,
  2. open the cover of the player,
  3. carefully force the front control panel open from the sides,
  4. then check for any damages,
  5. change the open button and it will be okay again.
test if it is the disc tray
press the open button, if it opens closes continuously.
then there is a problem with the mechanism that controls the open and close of the disc tray.

to fix this,

  1. Get the appropriate screwdriver,
  2. open the back cover of the player,
  3. look to the left side of the player and you will see a mechanism that controls the tray,
  4. change the mechanism with a new one.
after doing that, the player will be in good condition again.

take care

DVD side will not open, for the longest I could only get the DVD side to open if there was a disk in the slide yesterday the DVD side was closed with NO disk in it and now I can not open it

The DVD player in model DRC8295 uses a magnet to pull the Disc tray up into position. You can open up the front disc cover and push down slightly on the Disc tray and then push the open/close button to eject the tray. If this doesn't open the unit, you will have to unplug the unit and remove the cover. The cover is held in place by two silver screws on each side and five silver screws on the back of the unit. Once the cover screws have been removed, you can slide the cover towards the back halfway and then take the silver cover (held in place with two screws) off of the DVD player. Once the DVD cover is removed, insert a disc in the player and re-install the dvd cover and case cover. Plug the unit back in and eject and close the cover like normal. I have never tried to remove the magnet from the cover and checked to see if the DVD player still worked correctly. I have found it easier to just leave a Disc in it at all times. I leave a "Bad Disc" in mine and it opens/closes with no problems.

Eject tray belt broke

Opening the DVD player tray is not as hard as you would think.

1. Remove three black screws holding the outer cover on the unit (located on rear of unit)

2. Carefully remove front panel trim by gently prying six clips (3 on top, 3 on bottom) away from unit and pulling panel away from unit.

3. Locate opening at the front of the DVD player that houses a larger white gear.

4. Using a finger, gently move gear until DVD tray begins to move outward.

5. Continue until DVD is fully ejected.

6. Try plugging the unit back into AC outlet and attempt to Open/Close the tray using the provided button on the Front Panel Circuit Board.

7. Reverse steps above to put unit back together.

Tray won't open

What your husband is doing appears to be the right approach. Looks like the CD was not inserted properly and must've gone out of its seating and preveting the door from opening. Just pusing the CD back to position should take care of it.
