I have a new Singer model 4212 with the automatic needle threader. The hook that carries the thread through the needle has broken. After looking at the Singer parts catalog I can't find the part or the diagram for the assembly that would allow me to get the part.

The needle threader hook is very tiny and easily bent or damaged.
The needle threader is designed not to turn, if the needle is not at its most upper position to protect the threader - Turn hand wheel until needle reaches its highest position.
Needle not alining with threader hook - Replace needle.
Threader hook bent - Replace with new needle threader hook.
There are small plastic threaders that are like a hypodermic that pushes the thread through the eye....a good sewing and craft shop will have these, or a thin wire threader for an overlocker is a good option....but you cannot add to the machine itself, no, it was never an accessory....more expensive models tend to have them as a standard feature Sewing Machine Needle Threader eBay
Make sure your needle is fully seated and correctly inserted into your needle bar. Then make sure your needle is at it's lowest point before trying to use the threader.
I have that machine, and am wondering if your needle has a burr on it, try a new needle, #11 or #80. You may also have no hook in your automatic threader to go throught needle eye. My first automatic threader was defective, no wire to go through the needle to catch the thread. Take a magnifying glass and look when you change your needle and watch when you pull your threader down, do you see a really fine wire come through the needle eye? If, not yours is defective because it has to pull the thread into a little loop for you to pull your thread through it after you release the lever quickly, Mine was a Singer and they sent me a new one right away, Brother will do the same for you, I am sure. Another thing you can do is go to your dealer and have them inspect it, I went to JoAnn fabrics and that is how I learned that I was not crazy, it was the machine,
The small hook that passes through the eye of the needle is bent or broken. If it is only bent it can be straightened with a small screw driver. If it is broken it will need to be replaced. Most dealers can get this part for you for about $5.00 sewman7
The solution to the threader being higher than the needle: Use the handle on the right side to manually raise your needle up to it's highest point. Thant should work!
Hi - first, make sure that you raise the needle to as far up as it will go. When you thread the machine, make sure you pass the thread through each number along the path - there is a hook on the threader mechanism that is really easy to miss. It is always a good idea to refer to the book when you are having a problem.
You might also try changing the needle. The threader has a teeny hook that goes in to the eye of the needle from behind, grabs the thread, and pulls it back thru the eye of the needle.
The threader can go out of alignment. If you got the machine last fall, it should still be under warranty. You can call Brother and ask where you can take the machine for repair. Or, you can go to Brother's website and look for information that might be helpful.
A new part is faster and easier but sometimes the problem is a bent hook( the tiny part which goes through the eye of the needle). Remove the needle to see the part better and pull the threader down. Look in the very center of the threader for the hook. It is probably pushed to the right.Using a small screwdriver or other thin piece of metal, force the hook back to the center. Try it and continue until it enters the eye again. By the way, a Singer dealer can get this part for you for under $10. sewman7
Although I do not know this model, the philosophy of these types of threader is to place the thread horizontally to the needle across the needle hole while a tiny hook comes towards you thru the hole and pulls a loop of thread with it, you grab the loop and pull it free.
(Some older Janomes have a device that pushes from front to rear)
The tiny hook can and does get bent, so get a magnifier and just check it is functioning....if it is missing the needle eye, a small implement, like jewellers screwdriver etc may be used to gently straighten and re-align....they are quite sturdy, but be gentle.
Once you have a look at the device under magnification you will also much better understand how it works, and know where the thread needs to be for it all to come together !
