The mouse cursor icon is stuck on the screen and won't move around, but I'm still able to highlight things without knowing where the mouse is going. How do I get the mouse icon to work and start moving around again?

Right click the Rise of Nations display icon, go to 'Properties' and go to 'open file location'.

Look for a '.ini' file called 'Rise2' - double click it to open it up.
You will see this about mid way through the list that then pops up:
ForceHardwareCursor=0
ForceGDICursor=0
ForceBWCursor=0
ForceStaticCursor=0
change all of the 0's into 1 - then go to file, save. This should fix any issues you have with the mouse not working properly.

Cursor stuck

If the mouse cursor is stuck, try looking for the mousepad toggle. Most models of notbooks have one or two ways to toggle the mousepad off. They are generally either a button right above the mousepad or a function key.

Look for a button that has two icons that appear to be mousepads, one with a line through it. If you press it (You might have to hold the Fn key located in the lower left corner if it is a function key), it should toggle the mouse back on if it was disabled in this manner.

If this doesn't fix the issue, try pressing the windows key to see if it pulls up the start menu. If so, try navigating to restart to see if that fixes the problem.

Lastly you can also try navigating to the device manager to see if the mouse drivers are missing etc. To do that press the windows key, navigate over to computer and press the alternate menu (directly left of the right Ctrl key) and choose properties. Use the tab key to navigate to the hardware / device manager tab. Once there look for the mouse driver.

If that doesn't help please post your laptop model, version of windows and any other relevant information you can think of.

Please leave feedback if this was helpful. Thanks.

Mouse has a mind of it's own...often skipping across the screen without any assistance. Is there a patch available?

it might be due to scroll speed of mouse going bit high.
to adjust the same...click on start...control panel...mouse icon...mouse properties window would open... click on the pointers tab...adjust the pointer speed setting... this should help in fixing the issue.

Cursor bounces around, doesn't release when highlighting

Does your laptop have a touch pointer within the keypad? This can cause the problem you're experiencing. Did you try turning the track stick off in the touchpad settings?

Left click won't work.

Sounds like the shift or command or control buttons are stuck on your keyboard.

Jumping cursor

This is a really common problem thats not actually a problem.
Go to trackpad settings and make sure tap to click is off.
Most laptops allow you to tap the track pad to act as a mouse button, try it go to an icon tap the trackpad youll see that the icon highlights as if you are actually left clicking.
When your typing the trackpad senses your arm or wrist occasionaly and thinks your tapping the mouse, thus moving the cursor.
So go into trackpad settings and turn off tap to click.

When I move the cursor to play a game, the whole screen moves too

How are you moving the cursor? Is it time to change the batteries in the mouse, if it's cordless...

Use the scroll wheel and the CONTROL key - spin the wheel back and see if the screen shrinks. Then click elsewhere on the screen to make sure you're not dragging the whole gameboard around.
