Try jump starting the battery. Li Ion batteries often have smart chargers if the battery gets to low the charger doesnt recognise it. If yo have a spare battery fully charge it ant then conect + to + and - to - with wire ( may take two people) kep them connected for 2 mins or so then try in the charger.

I think you've already come to this conclusion, so I'll affirm, you need a new battery.

Something that may be worth trying, if you haven't already, find something a little abrasive and try to really scrub the contacts on the drill, and in the charger, ( obviously you'll want to make sure the charger is unplugged.)

Good luck!

I have a lithium ion battery and it won't charge. The red lights simply keeps flashing. I warmed up the battery, but so far no luck

There could be a variety of reasons for the battery malfunction, some of which are listed below:
a) low battery voltage due to long term storage without charging (>1 year, charger will not charge if the voltage is too low. What is the voltage?),
b) cell imbalance due to shorting out the terminals (was the battery used for other purpose than running power tools?),
c) internal corrosion caused by exposing the battery to damp environments during its life (need to open the battery and look for signs of corrosion on the cells. Was the battery left out in the rain at some point in time?),
d) battery age, ie, the cells may have reached their end-of-life based on the number of charge cycles (what are the estimated number of cycles?),
e) faulty charger (does the charger charge other batteries?),
f) internal battery damage with broken connections (has the battery been dropped or mishandled at some point?).

More details should be provided before suggesting possible solutions.

Battery

Step 1:
No just the laptop charger needs to be plugged in.

Frequent Charging Shortens Battery Life Frequent charging shortens the life span of a Lithium ion battery. Batteries should be charged only after they expend all their power. b> Switching Batteries Switching batteries helps preserve battery life: If a cell phone or computer user puts in a spare battery while separately charging the primary Lithium ion battery, that helps extend the life of both batteries. b> Removing Batteries Most laptops charge the battery when a user plugs in the AC adapter. Users can adjust this setting by changing the power options. Windows places this option in the Control Panel, while the Gnome Linux desktop places power options under "Administrative Tools". Cell phones incorporate their own power-saving features that the user usually cannot control. b> When to Replace a Lithium Ion Battery If a laptop battery does not hold a charge for more than a few minutes, a user must replace the Lithium ion battery if he wants to use the computer without an AC adapter. b> Other Ways to Extend Battery Life Storing a battery in a cool, dry environment causes a lithium-ion battery to last a little longer and reduces the frequency of needed battery replacements. Are all the Lithium batteries working like this. Mine work for a short time then stop dead. Wait a while then they will work again. Really a pain when you are working trying to do somthing and have to run...

I use the Ryobi Li-Ion tools the L-I batteries will cut off when they get to a low charge level this is to protect the batteries Li-Ion batteries life span is shortened when fullt discharged so when the tool suddenly stops put the battery on charge, also if the battery has a charge indicator light for a more accurite idea of the charge (green is charged, red discharged) hold the test button on then run the tool the light may go from green to red if it does that shows the the charge is about depleted if the light stays green you have a little run time left.

Batteries must be completely dead before recharging or battery life is shortened.large battery is probably defective contact Ryobi to replace battery they while probably send you new batteries for free if you tell them you are going to stop buy their products.Tell them about both batteries they will probably replace both for no charge

Metabo sbz 18v impuls drill has been sitting idol for years with a burnt out motor, have finally got round to fitting a new one. was working ok until I put the li-ion batteries in the charger. The charger...

If it is that old, the batteries are probably nimh (nickel metal hydride), not lithium, but either way, they will not be any good after sitting that long unused. Nimh have to be charged every couple of weeks due to self discharge, and lithium need to be charged every couple of months, but once a month is better. This is true if you use the drill or not, you have to take care of the batteries. They will have to be rebuilt or replaced. Oh, also make sure you are using the correct charger because if you use the wrong one, the batteries could catch fire and damage your home/garage/shop. Never leave a charger in use unattended. (Do not try to charge batteries and go to bed, very dangerous!) Good luck

Makita cordless driver drill model-6347d. ni-mh rechargeable nickel metal hydride battery 1834 18v 2.6ah will not stay charged. battery charter dc 1804- works great.

You say will not stay charged? Over what time period? Are you aware Nicad and NiMh rechargeables discharge naturally at 1% per day so where does that leave your power tool after 3 months? Furthermore they only have around 1000 charges in their useful life so you can immediately see how these tools are not for intermittent(ie handyman) use.
