If the meter shows that it's receiving something, the microphone may be the problem. Another possibility is the speaker & plugging an external speaker in would confirm this. Aslo make sure the squelch control is turned all the way to the left (counter-clockwise) & the RF gain is turned to the right (clockwise).

Put an external speaker on the PA jack, switch to PA to see if there is audio or feedback when you key up the mike. If not IC is gone. If you have audio you either have a broken connection at the Ext Spkr jack or a broken wire on your microphone.

The audio IC mentioned below is also used as the modulator when transmitting, so it must be OK.

So problem most likely is the speaker jack, switch it with the PA jack. In very few cases the re is a problem from the microphone jack to the circuit board but this is unlikely. The pins on the microphone jack may need to spread out slightly (if they're the split type). I trust you have checked it with a good microphone (Cobra or Uniden).

Cobra 29 NW LTD Classic won't transmit and no sound but will receive

The power output transistor has probably failed; usual cause is poor connection, excessive SWR or widely out of specification aerial.

Cobra 29 LXBT - No Receive but transmits.

The static tells me that your audio chip is working, but the stages ahead of that are not feeding a signal to the audio amplifier. The intermittent receive sounds like a bad antenna connection, or bad contacts on your transmit - receive circuits. I don't know the Cobra 29 LXBT circuitry, but likely a relay is switching between transmit and receive when you press the mic key. You could try connecting your antenna to the pins on the relay that carry the rf signal to the receiver circuitry. If you suddenly starting picking up signals, you know the switch is the problem, as you have by passed the switch momentarily. Don't try to transmit in this condition.

29 nw LTD no audio on receive out the speaker in the radio or through the ext speaker and on transmit no audio.Radio shows a 4 watt dead key

If you take your external speaker and plug it into your PA jack in the back and key up your mic do you hear anything. If so then its not your IC chip if not its your IC chip and it will need to be replaced.

No Transmitting, no RX sound, but can hear speaker click on...

Hi there!!

The symptom sounds like a bad Microphone connection or a bad microphone!! The Cobra has a built in circuit that wont allow you to hear anyone until the microphone is plugged in and the no transmit part will also do the same. Try another microphone that is wired right for that radio before you do anything else!! let me know!!

Cobra 29 NW LTD CLASSIC NIGHTWATCH

Dear RobertTx,

Sounds like you may have a leaky or shorted capacitor somewhere in the power circuits, or a defective transistor in the same circuits since it affects both the transmitter and receiver.
Common problems with receive and transmit intermittance can also be the antenna or its connections. The fact that it goes away if the radio is turned off, then on again after a short time points to something common in the power supply section. Unless you have test equipment and a working knowledge of electronics it will be difficult for you to troubleshoot on your own.
