Yes you can but will warn you it is a small project to do... the unit will require to be dismantled in order to get to the outer bearings... the lower unit taken apart and tub springs, drain hoses and taken out of machine to access everything... can be done but is about a 2 hour project if it is your first time to do it...

Yes it could be, you could try to reseat the ribbon cable on the Control Board. I have three Control Boards two of which are mounted on Consoles and all work in my test FAV6800A. The machine is hobby and I help owners that wish to DIY the repair on the machine to save big $$$.
If you do decide to DIY this issue and do not have access to a loan'er Control Board I would look at a supplier that will offer a return policy if the Control Board is not the issue. You will pay top dollar for that service.
All my spare electronic parts come from E-*** from other owners parting out the machine. You can make this machine last forever if you buy cheap used parts.
Only thing I would buy new is the Outer Tub Bearings and Spinner Support bearings and a new Clutch Pulley if a Leaky Tub seal takes out the One-Way Roller clutch bearings.
See these post for my credentials as FAV6800A owner that knows the machine from Control Board to Outer Tub rebuild.

My first suggestion is go to a true DIY forum and submit your question. I moved/post on a couple of real good DIY forums. I look back here once in awhile to help owners that are having issues that I feel they can DIY.
I can't find most of my repair post in this forum. This forum to me is a "Call In a repair tech forum" for this model and that is OK if you can't do basic DIY repairs.
I don't want to put in a direct link to the washer repair forum of my choice so put in your browser this phrase;
Appliance Repair Forums > Appliance Repair Talk > Washers > Maytag/Magic Chef/Admiral/Jenn-Air
This is a true DIY Appliance repair forum.

1. Did you do the work or a repair service?
2. Did you re-lube the One-Way Roller clutches needle bearing in your new clutch? I recommend clean with WD-40 and re-lube with Slick 50 One-Lube.
3. You may have a Leaky Tub seal and it may be time to do an Outer Tub rebuild.
Google this; ""FAV6800A/FAV9800A Outer Tub bearing replacement"" and read the process this is another real good DIY forum.
If you replaced the clutch you are more than qualified to rebuild the Outer Tub. Cost are in the ball park of $60
Was the Clutch Pulley One-Way Roller clutches bearing rusted up severely or only slightly? I'm trying to get a feel for a Tub Seal leak........Rich
