Washer will not spin. It tries to spin but it acts like it is dragging and then the motor kicks out I think. It sits for a while then it will try again with same results. Could bearing be going out because it had started to squeak once in a while.

My washer starts to spin but it acts like it does not have enough power to get into a full spin. It will spin once every once in awhile but it takes forever because it stops and sits for about 10 mins then...

Hi, if you have a top loading Kenmore and it "tries" to spin, there is a very good chance that your motor to gearcase coupler is broken. Usually, if this is the case, you can tilt the unit back a bit and look under the front edge- you'll see small bits of black rubber and/or white pieces of plastic. I have walked several folks through the replacement... just search on my username and you'll see the instructions.

Good luck.

Hey, I have a Whirlpool Hotpoint electric dryer that is broken. The drum will not spin. I can hear the motor engage like its trying to spin. It will do this about three times (start/stop cycle) then...

remove belt from motor so there is no drag on motor or pulley, then spin motor shaft and pulley by hand,it should spin freely and coast to a stop,if it is hard to spin, the bearings are dried out and normally its new motor time, you can try removing motor and soaking bearings in a solvent and re-oiling,but that usually doesn't do it

Washer will not spin

hi
i think the 3 main reasons.................

1.....MAY BE THE PROBLEM OF LID switch . Check the lid switch for continutity. A bad lid switch wil interrup the spin cycle. The the switch is ok test for power athe wigwag (spin) solenoid when in spin cycle. Since it aggitates the soleniod itself could be bad.

2....There is a locking coupler on the Whirlpool washing machines that locks when it kicks into spinning cycle. I am guessing here, but if you try and run it without any clothes in it, it will probably spin. It will be slow starting, but it will probably spin.
The coupler is located down by the motor and is three pieces. They made it out of plastic, and while it typically holds up very well, they do break. I will try to look up the part # you need to fix it. (assuming this is your problem)

3... Could be a problem with the transmission, probably not the coupler because it is connected directly to the motor, if the coupler goes bad the motor would not activate the transmission and the washer would not adgitate or spin.

thank you

Duo Therm kicking on the compressor, getting cold, but no fan!

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.

My maytag washer will not spin

HI, try to physically spin the drum.there should be some slight resistance but not a lot. if the drum spins freely and, with ease, replace the Motor control board. is has failed in this case.

***Now, if the drum dose not spin freely, this will confirm a failed electric motor.

Your motor/clutch combo is on the way out. The motor is overheating and turning off. Cools down and restarts.
You need a new motor/clutch combo or a new washer. I do not recommend another GE.

Help................

I am not a technician but with all the trouble I've had with my Calypso I wish I were. I too am having this same problem. It acted like it wanted nutate or spin but couldn't get going. When this would happen I opened the lid and spun the basket to "jump-start" it then closed the lid a hit the start button and it continued normally. Unfortunately during the final spin it came to a dead stop and now the basket will barely turn as if something is dragging it down. At this point my guess is it is faulty drive motor or brake assembly. And at this point I'm not sure if I really want to continue repairing this lemon.
