thanks for trying but it doesn't seem to be any of the above belt is slipping but problem is not belt adjustment and appears that the bearing may be seized the motor is going to drive it and it makes the spinning noise but does not spin but if given a spin while it is trying it will spin the shaft for a while then stop appears somewhere that a bearing is very tight or brake may not be releasing thanks

Possibly a lid switch. The washer shouldn't spin if it thinks the lid is open. Possibly a wiring issue. Check the wiring to the motor. If those check out it could be a problem with the timer. Sometimes bad contacts in a timer can be checked by turning the washer on in the spin cycle where it should be working and wiggling the timer shaft up and down and around without turning the knob. If the washer starts and stops, you've got a bad timer.

The spin bearing may be bad, but it would usually be because of a leak from the center seal. If this were the case you should be able to see where water came through the seal and slung out off the transmission. There would be a line around the interior of the cabinet just below the tub. It may also be the belt. It is specially woven and is supposed to slip and the beginning of the spin cycle to act like a clutch and slowly bring the spin speed up. If the belt is too worn it may never get up to speed. You can usually look at the belt and tell. When looking at a bad belt, the outside of the belt you should see the weave pattern and have some texture to it, but the top and bottom of the belt, where the belt makes contact with the pulley, will be shiny and smooth.

I have a Maytag Neptune FAV6800AWQ Serial Number

Fireman,

Excellent info wish all post would start off like this. The first two digits of the s/n are your series number a Series 16 machine I’m an owner no expert and will try to help.

I assume you have the Service Manual but just in case.

FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual for reference. Sears Parts Direct for reference.

“”I can grab the drive belt and effortlessly move it back and forth-pulley spins and motor spins--Should it move like this?””

There should be slight resistance.

With the front cover off and be careful of the rotating drive belt can you start a Spin Only cycle?

Do you see the Motor rotate the Clutch Pulley assembly CCW? If so the wash basket should spin CCW just raise the washer top and verify the CCW/Spin rotation.

If that works again with the front cover off start a Quick Wash cycle min Soil/Spin settings and observe as the washer. As it fills the wash basket will be rotating CCW don’t raise the washer top to high or you will spray water around.

After the water fill the washer will start to Wash/Agitate. The Motor will rotate the Clutch Pulley CW and the Tumblers will rotate. Do you see this action.

You can go into Service Mode with this procedure and dump the wash water if the cycle fails with this procedure.

I would go to page 16 of the SM lower right hand part of page, Board Output Test and turn on the drain pump in service mode to pump out the tub.

Enter Service Mode by simultaneously pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

Pressing the Delicates key will lock the lid. Now press the Presoak key the drain pump will turn on. Stop with off button or hit the Presoak key.

Thank you again for the Model number and Serial number…. other readers this is how you post an issue.

Waiting for your feedback………Rich

Maytag Performa, Noisey spin cycle, now does not work

the belt may be old and stretched/slipping...if it is stretched and slipping it will cause the squealing .............otherwise, check the pulley for the belt/motor to see if it is okay and the motor itself copuld be worn out if the belt looks ok............be careful, you can get zapped if you touch a wire and also if the motor is burned up it can cause a fire so watch carefully and you should be able to see which of these possibilities are the problem..............

Maytag belt problem

Sounds like a partially seized component. The belt will work under average load, but when it reaches spin cycle where it must run at high speed it may be encountering too much resistance from the component that it is spinning. Was there a whining or squealing sound? Did you notice any smoke or odour? Perhaps a failed bearing may be to blame, or an errant piece of clothing. My machine is a Maytag front loader and I can easily turn the drum with my fingertips. I don't know what machine you have, but basic mechanics tells me that the motor is spinning and the piece the motor is trying to spin via the belt is resisting. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Washer won't spin

Could be a worn belt,
Empty the machine and tilt backwards, you may need some help to do this.
Remove the belt and check, some times these appear OK but may have stretched.
Chech the agitator pully, try to rotate, will only move in one direction, see agitator moving as you do, get the person helping you to see this.
Check the motor moves freely on the tensioner, motor will appear to move 2".
Fit a new belt and try.
