Friend was uninstalling programs to make room on hard drive. (I don't know specifically which programs were uninstalled.) DVD drive is now disabled. Device is identified in Device Manager as Optiarc DVD+-R/W AD-5560A. Message says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39)." I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling device but the same problem returns.

Can you do a system restore? If not, here is something to try:

You may have caused a registry error. Try running a registry repair program, restart the computer after repair has run, then try reinstalling, after reinstalling, restart the system once again, then try DVD. Good luck.

SOURCE: Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561A This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I beleive that this code is being displayed under the Device Status in the Properties window of the DVD Drive in Device Manager.
If it is so, you need to do some modifications with the Registry to resolve the issue and I am sure that the issue will be resolved with this.
However, since you had not specified the Operating System which is installed in the Notebook is Vista or XP.
However, I am providing the links which includes the steps for both Vista and XP to edit the registry to resolve the issue with Error Code 10 with the DVD Drive in your Notebook.
Removing Upper and Lower Filter in XP :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

You need to perform the steps listed under Advanced Troubleshooting to delete the Upper and Lower filters.

Removing Upper and Lower Filter in Vista :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us
You need to perform the steps listed under Resolution in the link above.
You may not find both the Upper and Lower filters according to the instructions links provided above.
Delete the ones among the Upper filter or Lower filter or both which you find in the locations mentioned.
This should solve the issue...

SOURCE: optiarc dvd rw ad-7561a ata driver

weird. Try using Windows System Restore to revert back to before installing dameon tools. You can try installing it again but I would re-download just to be safe. It it happens again you might want to try alcohol 120% instead.

You can try going into device manager and uninstalling the dvd drive, it will automatically reinstall.
I had to buy a replacement off ebay for about £20, they want about £100 for a new 1

Code error

Before following the suggestions given below please make sure that you have the latest firmware for your DVD burner drive. Please contact your vendor or visit the manufacturer's website for the latest updates.

Please follow the steps mentioned below to resolve the issue:

1) Empty the contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. Then empty Recycle Bin.

2) Defragment your hard drive. DVD video files are very large and can quickly fill your hard drive to capacity. A fragmented hard drive can cause problems during DVD burning. Make sure to defragment your drive(s) regularly.

3) To avoid any compatibility issues, please close all other software and utility applications including virus scans, screen saver and instant messaging software before you launch PowerDirector.

4) Increase Virtual memory :

1. Right click on "MyComputer"
2. Select Properties -> Advance
3. Click on "settings" under Performance.
4. Select "Advance"
5. Click on "change" under Virtual memory.
6. Select "Custom" and enter initial value as "512" and Max value as "3096".

NOTE: If your existing settings are higher than recommended then leave them as before.

5) Please check whether the drive where you have installed Power Director software has enough space on it. At least 15 GB of free space is required and recommended while burning a DVD.

Now, try to burn the DVD at low burning speed.

If the issue still persists, try to uninstall other CD/DVD burning software like Nero, EasyCD Creator, Direct CD etc. Two burning software installed on same computer are known to cause conflict due to common files in them.

Also disable the XP built-in burning software. To disable the Windows built-in burning software:
- Open My Computer.
- Right-click your CD-RW or DVD drive and click Properties.
- Select the Recording tab.
- Remove the check mark from the 'Enable CD recording on this drive' check box.
- Click OK.

Also make sure that the total size of the video does not exceed the disc limit. (It is recommended that the total size should be less than 4.3 GB)

Now, close all other software and utility applications and then try the 'Create a DVD folder' option in the burning options screen and let us know of the result.

If the DVD folder is burned successfully, then the issue is burner specific and not software specific.

If the issue still not resolved, you may need to reinstall the Power Director software. Uninstall other burning softwares and then reinstall Power Director.

Follow the steps given below to reinstall your PowerDirector. Before installing your program, please close your MSN messenger, since we found that MSN messenger my lock some installation programs.

i) Uninstall PowerDirector software:

a.)Start--> Programs -->Cyberlink PowerDirector --> Uninstall PowerDirector

b.)Start --> Run --> type "regedit" --> click "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" --> click
"Software" --> click "Cyberlink" --> "PowerDirector". Delete folder "PowerDirector".

c.)Start --> Run --> type "regedit" --> click "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" --> click
"Software" --> click "Cyberlink" --> "PowerDirector". Delete folder "PowerDirector".

d)Reboot your PC.

ii) Reinstall PowerDirector. (NOTE: Before installation please close MSN Messenger, if open)

Now try again to 'Create a DVD folder'.

Go ahead with burning DVD only if the DVD folder is created successfully and without errors.

If you no longer utilize AT&T Internet services and want to uninstall the program, it's not hard to do. This will free up room on your hard drive. There are several approaches you can take to remove all traces of AT&T Internet on your computer.

Removing the software using Uninstall Manager

1.Click the desktop "Start" menu.

2.Select the "All Programs" folder.

3.Click the "AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet" folder, then click "AT&T Yahoo! Uninstall Manager" or "Uninstall AT&T Yahoo! Applications." The AT&T uninstall manager will be launched. Click "Next."

4.Check all AT&T related programs that you want uninstalled, or click "Select All."

5.Click "Uninstall" or "Next" to begin uninstallation.

Remove the software manually

1.Select the "Control Panel" from the desktop Start menu in Windows XP or 2000.

2.Click "Add or Remove Programs" in Windows XP and 2000, or "Uninstall a Program" in Windows Vista and 7.

3.Click "SBC Yahoo DSL Utilities" and click "Change/Remove" or "Uninstall/Change." Your computer will uninstall the software.

4.Go back to the "Add or Remove Programs/Uninstall or Change a Program" screen and remove all additional programs, one at a time: SBC Internet Mail, SBC Yahoo! Messenger, SBC Yahoo! Parental Controls, Yahoo! Companion, Yahoo! Login, Yahoo! Messenger Explorer Bar, SBC Yahoo! Dial, SBC Yahoo! DSL Utilities, SBC Yahoo! DSL and SBC Connection Manager. Windows 2000 users should also uninstall BroadJump Client foundation.

The start up was loading and it is slow..and my friend said that the hard disk of my netbook is the problem..what will i do?

The slow start can be a caused by the processor speed, ram, graphics, bios, many things can cause it to load up slowly if your friend thinks its the hard drive without physically hearing the sounds it makes then its probably is, i would recommend you buy a new hard drive for your laptop and installing your operating system depending on how big you want the hard drive to be can be a bit expensive getting a hard drive with at-least 2-4 meg cache will greatly speed it up too.

A user posted on same site,
Cons: I don't like programs that leaves excess baggage when uninstalling! I loaded the trial version, didn't care for the program. Luckily I have Threat Fire installed! When uninstalling T.F. called out suspicious activity, when prompting for details the uninstaller is writing data to hard drive, cookies or whatever. Went online to check out the uninstaller, wasn't impressed with what I found- basically spyware.

If you search the web you will find alot of the same, I did.

DVD DRIVE WONT READ

You may have installed a program for the cloning that has "commandeered" your drive. Try doing a System Restore to a date prior to cloning the DVD. You can also try uninstalling any programs like MagicISO or Alcohol and then re-installing your normal burning software. You can also try Uninstalling or disabling your drive and re-booting, forcing a driver reload.

CD / DVD player not listed as device on Windows Explorer

I also have the same problem. I've tried all the above plus some added info. The floppy still works when I swap it with the DVD. Occasionally it works for a short time right after a hard boot but soon after it appears to uninstall. I have searched the net for answers to this problem without success. I tried the registry correction without avail. There has been some online comments that the problem appeared after an auto update from uSoft. I believe the problem is software or firmware related.
