We would like to mount our 50 inch Sanyo plasma tv above our fireplace. Is there a temperature limit we need to worry about and do compatable wall mounts have the hardware for brick/mortar?

As long as the set is mounted correctly, there should be no real trouble with heat.
The Mounts, are/maybe standard, however it is the fastening that will differ, if stone, brick, concrete then special fixings must be used, apart from that you will be all good.

I just bought a 46 inch SAMSUNG LED HD TV from Best Buy and will be mounting it on a brick wall above the fireplace. The fireplace has gas logs with a an 8 inch mantle that extends 8 inches off the...

Hello,

it is not safe to mount the TV 8 inches above the mantle.

Secondly, the heat will certainly be a danger if the TV is mounted above the mantle.

I would advice you look for another position to mount the TV.

I hope the above is clear.

Regards.

Does the 50 inch Sanyo Plasma model #50747 have a reset button if it does where can we find it?

I dont believe there are any reset buttons . but the easiest thing to do is unplug the tv from the wall and any other device. for about a half hour this will reset the tv. if you plug it in and it still does it then it needs repair.

Height of tv

2000m = 2km, which is pretty high, and may cause problems at this altitude, probably something to do with pressure and the plasma gas ignition, I guarantee your fireplace is not this high.

Wall mount for 52in tv ?

Here is a mount rated for your size TV http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/518312-REG/Bentley_PLAW_6000FB_PLAW_6000FB_32_60_Flat_Panel.html

Also, be VERY careful mounting ANY plasma above a fireplace. Plasma sets are typically convection cooled to avoid the noise of fans. The heat from a fireplace will GREATLY reduce the life of the set. When people I know insist on putting a set above a fireplace I usually insist they install a cooling fan with ducting that will vent fresh air to the set. If you are concerned about the temp of your set simply consult the owners manual for operating temperature and measure the air above the fireplace yourself. BHphotovideo.com typically has good prices on mounts along with amazon. most other places like bestbuy or circuitcity will stick you on the price of the mount because they make their money from accessories. Also, why did your last set die? plasmas are typically rateed for 10+ years, did yours over heat and start to change colors?

Distance over gas fireplace

Both LCD TVs and plasma TVs get hot, though plasma TVs tend to be a bit hotter in my experience. Also, plasma TVs are going out of fashion.

A lot will depend on the construction of your fireplace. If it's brick it should insulate fairly well.

Either way, I would recommend a mounting solution that does not put the back of the TV flush with the wall. Get one that tilts. I would avoid the "arm" style ones as that will put additional strain on the mounting.

Remember to think about how you want to run your power and video cabling as well!
