You need a TV capture card... the package includes connectors for VHS & other DV cameras, you also need of course a VHS player..

While the VHS player is playing your VHS tape... the computer can now record it via the TV capture card.

That's what I do... goodluck and don't forget to rate...

How to convert VCR to DVD

no easy way to do this unfortunately. You either need to connect your VCR to a DVD recorder and record it directly onto DVD or use a device such as this http://www.dx.com/p/easycap-usb-video-capture-adapter-5707 to connect your VCR to your computer and record it onto your computer that way.

How can i make dvd from vhs

You need an USB VHS to DVD adapter and plug the video recorder into this adapter and then plug the adapter into the USB port of your computer, install the software on your computer.
Then you can save the VHS video file onto your computer and then burn a DVD disc.
Check out this WEB site for these adapters.

I have a Panasonic DMR-ES30V. I've only ever recorded from what I'm watching on the TV to a DVD. I now have a VHS tape that I'd like to record to DVD. I tried starting the dvd to record...

Most Combo Recorders (VHS and DVD) will prevent you from
recording a Copyrighted VHS tape program onto DVD.
Try recording a TV program onto your VHS tape, then
transfer it to your DVD and see if your new DVD recording
will work or not.

I want to trasfer my vhs tapes to a disc is this possible

You will need a VHS tape player, and a DVD recorder in order to transfer the content of your VHS tape to DVD. You can also use your computer to convert VHS to DVD. Here is an excellent site with in-depth information on converting VHS to DVD: http://www.vhstodvd.com/

CAN I RECORD FROM A VHS ONTO A CD OR DVD WITH MY STEREO?

In short, NO. Stereos are for playing not recording.

If your stereo has a DVD recorder and a video/audio input then you should be able to use it. I dont know of many stand alone "stereos" that do this. In general, stereos only deal with audio, but newer stereos and receivers can handle video as well, but usually are just PLAYERS not RECORDERS.

If not, then you will need to connect your VHS to a stand alone DVD recorder. You could also connect your VHS to a computer with the proper adapters (USB, firewire, etc) and software, and then record the VHS video to the computer. Afterwards you can then make a CD or DVD of the video.

A stand alone DVD recorder is much easier.

How to record a VHS tape to a DVD disc

Read your manual first to make sure the unit will do this.If it does chances are it won't record unless it has a decoder built in.Most VHS tapes have macrovision protection that prevents you from copying them.It will however, record homemade VHS tapes. There are decoders out there you can buy to enable you to copy VHS tapes.

Putting my movies onto PC

It appears you are using a compact VHS camcorder. VHS is analog data, so you cannot directly transfer the movies to your pc as you can with mini DV or Hard Disk camcorders. You would have to "play" them into your computer with some kind of video capture device.
Here is an example of such a device:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Products/Consumer+Products/Dazzle/Dazzle+Video+Archiving/Dazzle+Video+Creator+Platinum.htm
but there are others.
Hope this helps.
